Loving Sue Grafton's alphabet series. You don't have to read them in order, each one stands alone. What got me hooked was her latest release U is for Undertow. Now I'm going back and picking them up at the library as I find them. Main character Kinsey Millhone, private detective, is likable, funny, clever, smart and endearing. The mysteries are well-crafted and keep me guessing. Sue Grafton's writing style and voice as Kinsey is the bomb. I am a fan. And like some series books that deteriorate as they progress, this one does not. I already know that since I started at the end.

This book has such an interesting premise. I really liked the uniqueness of the subject, and how I was kept guessing for the first half of the book. For adult readers it asks some interesting questions, and has just enough angst that teenagers will really like it too. A little too much philosophizing, but still really good.

I realize we are not dealing with Gone with the Wind here. I was intrigued by the first book and genuinely enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd. The 4th is messed up because it breaks the rules set up in the first book and goe son forever. I eagerly wait for the Bard Senior Project that more succinctly explains why this series is bad for girls self esteem and the implications for society at large. Oh and Team Jacob. Yup I said it. I am all for reading -hopefully in a few years the people who love this book so much now will see it as the equivalent of when I purchased forever your girl by paula abdul in 1989.
