There's something about this book - I have to read it at least once a year. It's really good when I feel super hopeless or depressed or directionless. Sylvia Plath captures feelings and the descent into mental illness in such a simple and true fashion. There's no fancying up feeling like the bell jar may descend any time, and there's also no clear line between being mentally fine and being sick. The honesty that comes through in Plath's writing is raw, and it's what makes this novel so extraordinary. Just tell it like it is, but also with some poetic beauty and awesome metaphors and analogies throughout. Sigh...

Dannion Brinkley's experiences are amazing! His struggles after he was struck by lightening were inspirational to me.

A great book for trivia readers and others who just like trivia. The author of this book is NPR librarian who gives us many facts and figures. As a former library asstant (paraprofessional position) I found it very informative.

This is one of the most unique books I've ever read. What kept me reading was not only wondering what would happen next, but wondering why they were in such a predicament. The characters weren't as three-dimensional as I generally like, and their fates didn't concern me much, but the way things were described made me care anyway... If that makes any sense. So many cool ideas and mysteries in this book...
This book was not as creepy as I expected, given the nature of the dystopian society. (The society is just as creepy in many ways as I expected.) That being said, the fact is that the book contains alot of sexual themes - a given if you read the summary. There is fear of growing up; there is also sexual violence portrayed (but not overly graphicly or on the main character, primarily). The truth is I was kind of fed up with dystopian sci-fi before "The Hunger Games" series made it a hot genre, and now overwritten - much like "Twilight" did for supernatural romances. There's just SO many other aspects of sci-fi as a genre that I'd like to see written about! That being said, I just don't see this kind of world - even in 150 years or so - as plausable. So it makes it harder to swallow the story if you can't totally buy the premise. Despite that, the main character is well drawn, with realistic reactions, concerns, and relationships. She's a fully real person, even if some of her friends seem slightly flatter. The book does have plenty of drama and excitement to keep the story moving; however, the ending is abrupt. I think this book will be enjoyed by fans of dystopian sci-fi and will be appealing to reluctant readers becuase of the focus on teen sexuality. I would not want to recommend this to someone under the age of 16 though.

Interesting ideas, even though seem a bit outlandish.

I highly recommend anything in the Discworld series. Some I like more than others (for example, anything with Sam Vimes and the Watch, which are featured in this book, gets 5 stars), but they all showcase Terry Pratchett's wit and sharp eye for absurdity. He is an absolute genius.

A Place of Healing is a quick read consisting of ten chapters in which Joni talks about different aspects of healing and living with chronic illness or disability. She covers the theology of miraculous healing and seeks to answer questions such as “What benefit is there to my pain?” and “How can I go on like this?”. She writes about the benefit sickness can be to our character, while at the same time acknowledging how incredibly difficult it is to endure.
