A room painted bubblegum pink, with floral border wallpaper, sporting an immense collection of plastic unicorns is the best way to imagine the tone of "Captivating." It is written by a husband and wife team. I hate it when men try to divulge the secrets of the woman's heart to women, but the wifes commentary was even more repugnant (maybe because she should know better). The premise of the book was worthy, but ended up completely botched by the authors.

I enjoyed the book and the many mathematical asides. I often had my husband reading over my shoulder because he enjoyed all the diagrams and math bits too. I'll probably have to get a copy of this book for him. I think that people who have enjoyed the Georgia Nicholson series (Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, et al) will enjoy this book too. Having thought about what to write for this review over night I've come to the conclusion that Christopher got the short end of the stick with his parents. I don't want to say to much to give anything away but the motives of both his parents and their tempers make them no different than Christopher, except that they haven't been "diagnosed" with anything disorder.

This book is a funny take on teeth. A little boy has a nasty little sweet tooth and drives him to do crazy things and go bizarck over sweet stuff. Well the little boy decides to stand up to his sweet tooth and only feed him vegetables. This is a great book to use on nutrition and taking care of your teeth. I would use this book in my class room when talking about healthy living and taking care of your body. It is also a good book because children are constantly losing teeth, so this book makes losing teeth easy to cope with. (Science lesson could be used for this book.)

I wish the confidence scheme had been a bit more developed/clearer, but overall a lot of fun. And note to self: any book referencing tying in the title=kinky. lol

I like his conversational style and practical discussion of the history of Uranium... He makes science into a story, and then makes it easily intelligable. Very interesting.
Meticulous construction gives way to a truly inane climax.

I loved this book! The language is beautiful. I love what it teaches about friendship and the need to be loved.

This is a VERY GOOD book. But it could have been better. If you're a student of Flannery O'Connor (like me), this is an essential text. Here, for the first time, is a serious biography that tells the story of her life and work in a comprehensive narrative. For this, I am grateful to author Brad Gooch. Thank you, Sir. But there are (minor) factual inaccuracies most O'Connor students will instantly catch. And several relationships and events in Flannery O'Connor's life merit a fuller investigation and more detailed accounting. I hoped this book would dedicate serious consideration of O'Connor's relationship with Thomas Merton. I was disappointed. Perhaps the fact their correspondence have been published elsewhere diverted the author from this important trail. I don't know. But if you're going to write "the biography" about someone, it seems you would nail down the most important relationships in that person's life. Another (minor) complaint is the author's tendency to recount Flannery O'Connor's reaction to a momentous event with a single (often throw away) quote. Is this really how such a thoughtful and insightful writer responded? I'm skeptical. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book. From a narrative perspective, it covers all the bases. And there are amazing kernels of history throughout the book. I can't say I learned much about her internal life. But if you want to know the external details of the short life of one of my literary heroes, this is a very good read.

Meh. Sorry, but I really wasn't expecting much more. The books have gotten worse as the series progressed until I wasn't really sure why I kept reading them. I love Koontz, did not love this series.
