I like it!

Oh, I loved this book. I kept wishing the MC was older than thirteen, so I wouldn't feel as intimidated by her pure insight. It was such a simple story. Lovely. Just lovely.

I really like this book. It's a quick, easy read. And when you think about the fact that Christopher Paolini was 15 when he wrote this: it's an amazing achievement. For that reason alone, I think most fantasy should read it. With that said, it's very formulaic. It's the standard poor kid who becomes a hero story. And in the process of becoming a hero, he has to do the typical cross-the-world-journey; learn from a wizened old spell-sword who has a mysterious past; a mysterious beautiful woman; grumpy dwarves; long-lived elves who spit disdain at the short-lived; oh, and hey, just to throw you off a bit, there's an impetuous young dragon who occasional says wise things. Don't get me wrong, it's a quick read and it's actually pretty enjoyable. However, if you're getting in to this to read something new and refreshing, don't bother. If you just need something comfortable to curl up with, jump on in – it's perfect for that.

Her stories are often dangerous: quite a few times, I almost choked on food, gasping; frequently gave myself superficial burns due to multiple spilling episodes of hot beverages while idiotically thinking I could read her stories without breaking out in bodyshaking laughs or repetitive chanting of ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod. I should not even mention the complete disruption of already fragile sleeping schedule that will happen when you force yourself to stay up late to finish one more story. Just one more. Hmm..it's 2am...well, maybe just one more.

Wright gives a very readable history of Al Qaeda and the build up to 9/11. I remember that right after the attack occurred I couldn’t believe that any government agency would be able to stop a group of crazy individuals who wanted to kill themselves from doing so. This book changed my mind somewhat. The number of opportunities that the CIA and FBI had to connect the dots and prevent an attack was astounding. Wright definitely paints the CIA as the department to blame here. A very strict interpretation of the separation of the agencies’ roles and prohibitions on sharing information caused multiple opportunities to be missed. The US government was gathering data but wasn’t using it. This book is also a great insight into the tensions between different political and terrorist groups in the Middle East that I, at least, tend to group into one bucket. There are many different motivations and styles which are important when it comes to matters of dealing with these various networks.

Not the most gripping read, but the words of a fantastic leader of men
This would be most appropriate for preschoolers. Its about two friends (boy and girl) who play together all the time but they like different things. One friend becomes scared that because they do not like all the same things they will not be friends. Touches on opposites. Cover and pages are thick and matte with beautiful illustrations.

Such an endearing story, as beautiful as it is heartbreaking.
