I liked the historical pictures of places in the two towns but didn't enjoy the many, many pictures of people who are probably related to the authors.

Pretty good. Kind of sad

This book was really instructive for me writing wise, but I didn't really enjoy reading it. He moves between flashbacks and the present with a unparalleled fluidity and uses words so subtly--it almost makes up for the overwhelming plot. Also--worst title and book cover ever. Fire this jacket designer.

One of my favorite books. But as a rule, I don't finish nonfiction. Don't want to encourage 'em.

The graphic novel genre combined with the grotesqueness of Fairy Tales in a contemporary setting could have been REALLY mouthwateringly wonderful. This, however, is a cheesy, recycled detective mystery, with cheap puns about fairy tales being the ONLY reference to the rich history of the stories. The dialogue is bad, the storyline is predictable, the art is pretty, though not profound or compelling. A fun read, but nothing grand.

Some of Miller's most inspiring writing, I think. This is the kind of book you want to come with a highlighter so you can remember where those amazing passages are to quote again and again. That said, it's not for everybody, especially prudes. The gratuitious sex scenes almost turned me off from this book only for their sheer unbelievability and ridiculous frequency... but it all made sense in the end... or rather once I started reading Plexus, which contains absolutely NO sex scenes at all. Sexus covers the period of Miller's life when he was trying very hard to BECOME a writer, that is, work up the nerve to actually write something. Plexus covers the period when he actually does and becomes an artist. So the shift from Sexus to Plexus can be seen as the shift from the carnal to the intellectual life. Of course, it's much more fun to figure it out by reading it. Sorry for the spoiler.
Really good book for those trying to change to the needs of todays learner. Great insight into how to relate and help the next generation capture their power and forge toward greatness. Create a 'river' instead of a 'flood'. Really great quotable statements. Here are a few from just the end of the book. Train leaders from the inside out so they can turn the world upside-down. Leadership is more about a disposition than it is about a position! Teach students to think like a leader to see beyond their own life so they can be good at their ‘position’ later. Education needs to be about relationships before it is about results! Build a relationship that can bear the weight of truth.
Fun and funny!
** spoiler alert ** Picking up right where Catching Fire left off with Katniss's rescue from the Hunger Games, circumstances in Panem proceed quicly to war. Katniss and Peeta's actions in the Hnger Games have stirred the populace to rebellion against the atrocious treatment of the Districits by PResident Snow and the Capitol. Katniss finds District 13 is alive and well underground and ready to spearhead the rebellion against the Capitol. Civil unrest and war is a tough thing to pull off especially in what is basically a YA series, if a bleak and distopian one. The results are uneven in my estimation, and left some questions for me. A compelling and readable, if depressing series. Book 3 exploring as it does the corruption and desire for power on both sides of the conflict raises some good questions but perhaps doesn't service the characters as well as it could.
