Cotton candy. Light and fluffy, but after a while you get a little bored with it.

My mini-review can also be found on my blog Collections. 3.5 stars I have to admit that Tris and Tobias, especially Tris, were really frustrating me throughout the book. And I didn't feel a connection towards the other characters (I got REALLY tired of hearing about Will) or the story till the last page of chapter 30. That's when things started getting good, in my opinion. Tris was finally making sense. But then! Sadly, I felt it went back to the way it was before once Tris started acting pretty much the same way she was acting in the beginning of the book. Keeping secrets, like she's the only who can do or understand things. Plus, ALL the adults annoyed me. UGH. I guess I'll read the last book, but I'm not feeling much for it right now.

Some brilliant quotes re how totalitarianism appeals to otherwise resistant intellectuals. Seeking parallels to fundamentalism in 2007. Wrong approach, perhaps.
I liked this book, but it was substantially harder to get through than some of his other work. It just wasn't as enjoyable to read as other books on Buddhism I've read. Overall, though, I really like Thich Nhat Hanh's approach to Buddhism and his zen teachings.

This was the book that really got me started on reading back when I was just in middle school. I fell in love with it and the whole series that it was apart of. Just by chance a friend gave it to me and all else is history. The Nightmare Hall series is still my most treasured collection, that I own.

It was okay. Good friendships, different personalities...a lot of it was predictable and the sex scenes didn't work for me. For example, and I quote, "She felt like she could ride his rocket into the sky, his super-powered express ship"...stuff like that.

Only a British Professor could write a boring book about Pirates. Lots of information, but dull, dull, dull.

This is a "first reads" book. It would fit nicely in the "chick lit" category. The story centers on a woman who recently lost her husband and sets out to make a new life for herself. She moves to a new town, meets new friends, reconnects with former college roommates, and realizes a long term dream of having her own business. All in all, a likeable group of characters with a somewhat predictable plot.
I can't accurately explain why I liked this book so much. For a while now I've had a natural aversion to all YA series marketed toward girls. They're too repetitive, I don't have the time for a series, etc. But I read Bright Young Things and remembered it fondly so decided to give this a try, and I really liked it. Anna Godbersen is wonderful at weaving her surprisingly intricate and character-driven plotlines together into one seamless and readable novel. There's substance to this book, too. And I was surprised to find myself on my often spoken of 'edge of seat', because there is some action in this book. To those somewhat cynical readers like me who read partially to broaden horizons and stimulate brain cells, don't dismiss this book. It is certainly better than it appears.
