Orange County: A Personal History Authors: Gustavo Arellano 03/25/2009 8:21 AM This is a great story combining the history of Orange County with a memoir of the author. Arellano is pretty well know in "the OC" for his weekly column "Ask a Mexican" and this book reflects his wit and wisdom as well. I really enjoyed it.

I was not expecting to be glued to this book, but I was for 2 days. Showed the best and worst of human nature wrapped in a story about a gal I was rooting for the entire time. The love affair was most unusual, and I enjoyed how it ended up.
I did not quite know what to expect after reading the blurb regarding this novel. What was presented as a rather typical “old friends concoct a marriage of convenience that is not” plot turned out to be quite unique. The plot is complex and gripping, fun, suspenseful and emotionally charged by turns. Lizzie is a great character, brave and inventive; she is able to overcome pretty much all of the circumstances thrust upon her. Jamie is less likable for all of his ideals and noble mission. He lets Lizzie down on far too many occasions. His love for her enabled me to forgive him eventually. He is a charming character for all of his faults. Fans of this genre will love this fresh new take on a classic theme. Maura Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More Full Review: http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/Book...
Thoroughly enjoyed this; original, engaging, left me very sorry (and mystified) I'd not encountered it before. Looking forward to re-reading it; looking forward to the rest of the series.

I read this King novel at the urging of my best friend. She hated scary gory things, but liked this book because she sometimes felt like she was treated like Carrie for being different. I really liked this story of being an outcast and where that can lead. I also liked Sue Snell's side of the issue about how she followed the crowd. I also found the format of the book interesting since it isn't just a linear narrative, but rather is told more like a scrapbook of news clippings and stories. I wasn't scared until the ending, which is totally different from the movie, by the way. And, like Pet Semetary, I learned a few of the finer details about sex from this book. I teach this book as an option of lit circles with my freshmen when we do individuality and conformity. It is very popular with the boys because of the gore. I also baited this year telling them there was sex in it, which was humorous. I worry that boys won't get past the opening with in the locker room, but they do. Oh, and the rocks are borrowed from The Haunting of Hill House and King uses it again in Red Rose, which seems to gather together elements from many of his stories.

Certes ce n'est pas le manga du siècle et les dessins peuvent en rebuter plus d'un mais franchement rien que pour la fraicheur du ton donné et l'humour ça vaut le coup !

I found this very hard to get into, I found the main charectors hard to like. I know it was set in the Victorian era but it must have been hard to live a life like that all buttoned up and repressed. I could not find an endearing thing about Van Tassel. Not her best novel

Clearly written, not really funny but interesting sometimes. Obviously I imagined Jason Schwartzman reading/writing it. Also it kinda made me sad in a really fundamental way.
