Mr Deaver is becoming one of my favorite authors. I love the Lincoln Rhymes books. He truly keeps you guessing as to where the next piece of action will take place. The charactors are very well developed and you really do either really like them or dislike them. I look forward to reading more of Mr. Deaver books.

Now, as much as I love the way Reza Aslan looks, I must say that his work is...well...it's been done before. He isn't saying anything new, and it's so obviously media-packaged and for the post-9/11 world, that it sometimes is very shallow in its scholarship. Nevertheless, it is a good read and a good book to give someone who is unfamiliar with Islam and Muslims and wants to learn more.

I couldn't not read this book after having met the author, editor and publicist. All the buzz was true - Sittenfeld is an expert on Northeast boarding school culture. Unfortunately Prep brings nothing new to the table and her protagonist's 4-year saga as the non-elite outsider is depressing and defeating. Great jacket cover, though!

This book has me a bit torn. I do love the characters and the plot. But both suffered in this book, with the end leaving us...um, about the same place as the beginning. Most of the book seems to just be a showcase for how the world has changed, and all conversations are engineered to give us more information about this. This comes across pretty wooden, as do the love stories, even the bad attempt at a love triangle. Also, the writing is very ham-handed. He never gives you a hint if he can bash you over the head with the information itself. BUT... The writing improved DRAMATICALLY at the very end and was fantastic! Also, I do still love the series and will keep reading.
