This book is desperately sad but very good and insightful. It gave me a glimpse into life in Afganistan which I have never had before. I love the way the story switches between his childhood in Afganistan and his young adult life in the U.S. I have a better insight into the life of a middle eastern immigrant thanks to this book. There are great themes of loyalty, courage, duty to family and unconditional love.

The parts that Dracula were actually in were pretty cool... but for the most part, it's just... SO christian. wow! SO catholic. And it kept repeating itself on many themes to the point where even I got annoyed by it toward the end. I think I'm a bigger fan of dracula spin-offs.

Theodore Boone is back for another thrilling (if sometimes predicablly so) story. His best friend has been kidnapped and it's up to Theo to find her. Not as much court time in this volume as the original. Not Nobel Literature but it's John Grissom....and who doesn't love John Grissom?

My son's 5th grade social studies teacher recommended this book to me during our recent PT Conference. It is amazing! I love that it's based on the life of a real person. It is admittedly a book with an agenda, but a very good one--to raise awareness of modern child laborers. The story is about child carpet workers in Pakistan, and about a very brave one in particular who risks his life to change the status quo. The "very brave one" is the real person of the story: Iqbal Masih. The book is quite well-written, and not too harsh for a 5th grader, although very thought-provoking and moving. I'm glad I read it.

*SPOILERS* I put off reading my e-mail and looking at GoodReads for 4 days so that I would not have the ending of this book spoiled for me. And, I did it, I got to read the ending with no one spoiling it for me. So, Harry does die, but then he gets the choice to come back or not! Wow! JK Rowling really had us all going there. She said major characters would die, and then she put all of the major characters in peril over and over again. Very well written...and very well played! I loved the Epilogue. Some people say that they didn't like it was too cheesy, but I can see why she did it. People would have been disappointed if it had just ended and you never knew what happened. But she didn't want to give us too much information, she didn't want to make it too long. I noticed she did leave it wide open for more books about the Potter children and Ron and Hermione's children. One comment I made to my husband before he finished reading it when he asked what I thought. I answered with two words. "Blood bath." Which for a children's book it was. People were dying left and right. And I did get all choked up when Fred, Lupin and Tonks died. Overall I thought it was a great book. I liked it much better than books 6 and 5. I enjoyed the whole series. Kudos to JK Rowling.
