Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I haven't read a book with a genuinely original plot in a while. I started off mildly interested, but with each page turned I became more caught up in the plot. Set in an undetermined future, the plot revolves around the morality of advanced medical procedures. The futuristic world the author has presented us with is slightly crude and not very imaginative, but that can be forgiven as it helps you focus on the story instead of the universe it's in. I'm afraid I can't mention much without giving away any spoilers, and its slightly frustrating since i don't know how to properly write this review, but.... I guess... Wow, what I'm trying to say is....I guess what I can say it's a very well-written novel, conveying the story in a first person POV that fits perfectly with the plot. All the characters are three dimensional despite not having detailed characteristics. I especially liked Ethan and Lily (though I hated the latter in the beginning). The ending was... Okay. Not anything mind shattering. But I guess it's hard to end a book that climatic. Eh. Sorry for the long and slightly boring review, but you'll get what I mean when you read the book. Which you should do. Except, don't blame me if you don't like it or something, I have this feeling that this is one of those love/hate books. Anyway. Read it. You won't lose anything if you do:D

Inspirational for sure. I loved the descriptions of the scenery and family life. A little preachy about how this guy should win the Nobel Peace Prize (I think he should, but do you really need to push it that much?), but WOW what an uplifting, amazing story. Really makes you think about how you can do with less and give more.

It's kind of a silly-funny sort of mystery; one that is a bit far-fetched with some amusing descriptions of many characters...

I swoon!!! If you are too lazy to read the book, at least invest 5 hours of your time to watch the BBC movie.

I'm not sure how to rate this book. I inhaled it over two days but it's left me so shaken that I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it. Make no mistake: it is not for the timid heart, especially if you have children.

Widely renowned for the excellent quality of its drinking water, New York City was once reviled for the same. Only decades of pollution and disease finally motivated the powers-that-were to stop the politicking and do some good for the people of New York. Entertainingly written and well-researched, Koeppel describes the history of drinking water in New York City from the 1600s when water came from ponds and wells through the construction of the Croton Aqueduct in the 1840s which brought water to Manhattan from upstate New York. Personally, I found the subject matter fascinating and was impressed at the number of first-hand accounts the author was able to unearth. Plus, Koeppel made the potentially dry subject matter (OK, I guess water is by definition not dry subject matter) a pleasant--almost poetic--read. I deeply wish that the book had covered the period from 1850 to the present in greater detail. It took 280 pages to get us to 1850, and then the subsequent 150 years were covered in 10 pages. If nothing had changed, this wouldn't be a big deal to me, but today NYC gets most of its water from sources other than the Croton Aqueduct, so I was left thirsting for more.

Wonderful book series. One of my favorites actually
it was okay. i really didn't like the first main femal character. i felt like she was a little bit too pushy for the guy that she was with. the second one was a lot better, but still the main femal character got on my nerves as well.
