This was a good read but I did not learn as much about Jane as I wanted to. It did fill in some gaps of Tudor history for me though. A very quick read.

one of my favorite fantasy novels. it has a great mythology about a family of necromancers who use their powers to fight evil and put the dead back down.

This really a must read, and much more interesting than what they were (or are) teaching you at school about the Great War. This book makes the WWI come alive right before your eyes, and it's not simple or heroic at all. In fact, you might want to close this book and wish you've never picked it up, but once you start reading it, you won't be able to put it down. It's also illustrated with black and white photos, which help to imagine what was it like back then (I wish the photos were placed at a vertical angle, so that they could take over the whole page and be larger). The only this that this book lacks, in my opinion, is a couple of maps with the main battles and front lines shown, maybe one for each year, because there are a lot of various places mentioned throughout the book, and it's a bit difficult to keep track of what takes place where, especially if you've never looked at WWI front maps since school.

It's all about oil and corn. Good read but they could have just chopped off the second half of the book and nobody would have complained.

For me, this book revealed the simple truth that the only way to know and appreciate the power and and meaning of any particular song has to involve hearing the song itself. It was a heartfelt book, and I really enjoyed it... but I felt like I was missing half of the story since I didn't know a lot of the songs on each mix tape that headed up each chapter. The author essentially tells his story through the connective tissue of music, from his early (relatable) years as an awkward kid at camp through his young adulthood when he meets and falls in love with his wife. They were only married for five years; he lost her unexpectedly at the age of thirty one to an embolism. It was a lovely read despite the missing link of intimately knowing the songs that narrated this sad story. My favorite quote: "When we die, we will turn into songs, and we will hear each other and remember each other."

Realmente amé, amé, amé el concepto. Sin embargo, el libro en sí era una lectura mucho más difícil de lo que imaginaba.
