Apparently, this is one of the widest-read novels in the world. A man with an extraordinary sense of smell (and no smell of his own) strives to create the perfect perfume. A little dash of morning dew, a pinch of nutmeg and oh yeah, skin of virgin. I read the English translation (cause I don't sprecha zie Deutsch) in a post-structuralist literary theory class, and this book lightened the load considerably.

this book was very confusing, as is the nature of the disease. it was just difficult to follow, although through little fault of the authors. however it did provide wonderful insight into the mind of someone suffering from multiple personality disorder.

I read the House of Night series up until this volume, and then I couldn't take it anymore. Zoey is a horrible narrator, and as a heroine even worse. Really, she's selfish, the epitome of selfishness even. How she treats all these poor guys is horrible, the way she strings them along and uses them as she pleases. Let's not talk about her hypocrisy, and the way she treats her friends. I had to force myself to keep reading and just get it over with. My sister recommended these books to me, and told me they'd be getting better, but I'm not in for a try. The first one was enjoyable; but it went downhill from there. No more Zoey for me. Take your goddamn boy troubles and leave, bitch.

I thought this read like a movie (just like the back says) and recommended it to my Mom. She's from Iowa and seems to love historic tales from the Midwest. She couldn't finish it because of all the scientific talk on the weather and the conditions of the dust bowl. As a historian, I love a good back story. Then again, Mom also hated the Red Tent.
