This is a hilarious and emotionally moving play. There is a large cast of very diverse characters, who are brilliantly interconnected. This play shows great insight about the human condition. Content a bit dated to the culture of the 1970s, but the understanding shown applies to all of human nature. Exceptionally perceptive work. I also saw Lily Tomlin perform this live several times when it played in San Francisco. Amazing experience!

Since, i'm a huge fan of VA, i was very excited to read Bloodlines. We are reunited with some of our favourite characters from VA (ADRIAN!!!!) and this time, they are in the spotlight. Personally, i was very happy when i found out that Sydney was our narrator because i had grown to really like her character in Last Sacrifice and i was really curious about the Alchemist organisation. This book provides a little insight into the alchemists, their prejudices and rules. I have a feeling that their 're-education' aka brainwashing is gonna play a big part in the books to come. Back to Sydney, i really liked her character because she is a bit socially clueless and a little uptight and just a very different character from Rose. I think Richelle made a great decision by choosing a heroine who is the polar opposite of Rose because that made this series very refreshing and unlike some spin-offs, it didnt feel like we were just reading the same book with different characters. She has a very different perspective and has issues with the moroi's blood drinking and magic, etc. She isnt as brave or tough as Rose but is quite smart and analytical, and i kind of liked that because it made her more relatable. Adrian was swoon-worthy as usual and made me laugh out loud everytime he said something. He is my fictinal boyfriend and it was SO good to see him back - as charming as ever. He does have his own issues, especially, after what rose did to him, but we do get to see some development in his character and i predict great things for him in future books (and a lot of pain) His friendship with Sydney was very unique and i cute and i thoroughly enjoyed his scenes. Sydney and Adrian have very different personalities and they balance each other perfectly. They have a great understanding of each other and i look forward to seeing where SYDRIAN goes from here. Eddie was brave and totally kick ass and i was very pleased with his role and because he had been one of my most fav characters from VA. Jill was a little immature in this book and did some stupid things. They did annoy me a little, but i guess its expected after all the crazy stuff she's gone through in LS. I feel a bit bad for her. The plot was great and i really enjoyed the mysteries in this book. I did guess one of the twists, but the other one was a total shock to me! This book has a great pace and though it doesnt contain lots of action scenes, the story still entertained me and there was never a dull moment. There wasnt a lot of romance in this book, however, i am not complaining because there is a lot of potential for it and i want to see it develop at its pace in the next book. Finally, this was an AMAZING book and personally, i love it more than VA. The Golden Lily cant come out soon enough!!!!1 On a side note: Adrian and Sydeny need to be together, like NOW!!!

Purchased in the Buenos Aires airport from a very limited selection in English, this book was a perfect travel partner:a plot with twists and turns, balance of legal intracacies, family dynamics and moral ambiguity.
set in Baltimore!if you're from Baltimore you'll like all the references to places in Baltimore, tho' some may not be known to the younger reader. it's a lightweight mystery.
this was funny. my reviews are pithy, aren't they.

Great overview of how the Democratic Party can return to its progessive roots and coincidentally win back the majority of the electorate.

this has that perfect black summer vibe, like listening to joy division in the blazing sun of a summer afternoon. i guess all the hidden, relevatory stuff in john from cincinnati may be mostly from david milch, because there isn't as much of that in this book, other than kem nunn unveiling those bits of spiritual need that are intertwined with the desire to surf. perfectly drawn though is the scuzzy underbelly of all that california dreaming, as that quest to tap the source abuts against all the nastiness that is human nature.

The Secret Keeper is a nice introductory piece for those wanting to explore the mysteries of the land that lies between the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The form of the story is not foreign, but some of the conflicts that arise might not be so familiar to all readers. The idea of the next living male relative taking responsibility for the family is not totally unfamiliar. The basic story could be lifted out of this setting and put into another culture. The results could be the same, but the journey would take a few different turns. The ability for a story to be able to cross cultural boundaries says a lot about the basic ideas behind the writing. Mitali Perkins is able to make makes that happen. One element that always hangs in the balance with books set in another culture is the decision to include or omit various concepts, traditions, and vocabulary. Their use adds color and brings a sense of authenticity that is often unachievable by any other means. What does not work well is to depend solely on a glossary or appendix to provide such details. Perkins uses both, but only as an additional resource at the end of the text. Although preferences vary, finding a way to embed this extra information in the text would have been sufficient. A decent story with some cultural information is what one should expect from this book. Creative teachers might develop the family issues and even find a way to share the book with an entire class. Other possible uses include an investigation into gender roles in sports and education. Add this book with confidence, but be prepared to talk it up among students to get them started.
