I absolutely adore this book. It totally floored me--really blew me away. The moment I closed it, I wanted to open it and read it again. The voice, the characters, the cultural backdrop...truly spectacular!

I'm taking the entire year of 2007 to read this book, two chapters every month. It's illuminating and revealing. I highly recommend it as a supplement to what Americans are taught in public school.

Ok, I get it. Girls are mystifying and strange and near untouchable. They either float into the clouds or fall pierced to the ground. But thank you Jeffrey for writing so seductively in the first person plural--you've made me fully endorse your simplistic, sexist premise!

It was a pendulum of suffrage expansion and contraction. Got kind of droll after 200 pages. The man knows his stuff but really, how long can you keep reading up on the same thing over and over again. The only surprise in the book is that people actually want the vote, after all that i would have just quit and moved up to Canada.

I'm always amazed when people say they love this book. Why? It's poorly written and executed plus it has zero substance. For once, skip the book and just watch the movie if you're curious.

I havent finished this entire ordeal yet; however, I've found it so far - while possessing a wonderful anesthetic - a bit bizarre in content. I dig the whole "three books-in-one" thing...I guess sometimes, Mcsweeneys is a little too strange, even for me. I tried reading the book of Oulipo works, and while entertaining, the effect wore off after twenty or so pages. The poetry ordeal, I dig. Haven't picked up the Unwritten Fitzgerald piece yet. I'll give it this: it looks really cool on your shelf. I'll update this later.

'Wyatt took the stairs. The lift was available, but lifts were a trap. He went straight to the first-floor apartment’s concealed safe and removed the contents: spare cash, two sets of false ID and the deeds to both properties. Finally he grabbed the dark suit hanging in his wardrobe. There was nothing else that he wanted to take with him when he left the place forever, no photos, diaries, letters or other keepsakes, for the simple reason that he had no past that he wanted to think about.' Enigmatic and elusive, Wyatt is an old-fashioned robber and heist man with no room in his life for friends, relationships or sentimentality. He makes for great reading, although we know almost nothing about him. A few chapters into this novel I realised Wyatt had done nothing more than attempt a snatch and grab and buy a stolen handgun, and yet I was riveted. I found myself turning the pages compulsively to find out what this anti-hero would do next, and how. Soon a seemingly simple jewel heist falls in his lap. What could go wrong? Naturally, everything. The flaw in this otherwise excellent crime novel is the weak and unconvincing women. Wyatt’s world is peopled by strippers, vacuous shop assistants, double-crossed ladies in need of saving, an overmatched female cop with an ill-fitting bra, and women ‘teetering on high heels and inexperience’. They range from unfortunate to downright dumb, and far too many end up naked and vulnerable to an unsympathetic man at some point in the story. The focus on the female form - without substance – seemed at times to border on the pathological. Good noir need not be so relentlessly old-school macho. Wyatt suffers for it. It's a really good book, Alyson's writing is dynamic and the story flows without slow/sleepy/boring parts, having a good rhythm and keeping you with the "wtf what now?!" thinking. I have to admit that Ever got in my nerves a few times, with a few stupid thoughts/actions and that melancholic way. Miles is really cool and Haven can be a pain sometimes. Damen is a really nice character, he's not that "ow my life will end without you" type of guy, he has this all perfect "oh my gosh" thing but not as an ideal prince charming, he is human, he makes mistakes and get tempted and i think this is very nice. (lets face it, Mr. Edward no fails is kind of ... boring and too unrealistic). Making it short, it's a really nice book, totally recommended.
