I don't know why I keep reading these...they are formulaic and often superficial (though with fun details). It was a book that was not great but might engage some of my students. I don't think I'm going to finish the series just so that I can recommend it.

Kenapa ya saya kasih bintang 2? Pertama karena yang paling saya ingat dari kisah ini adalah cara penceritaan yang membingungkan. Kadang Sassy -tokoh utama cerita- jadi orang pertama, lalu tahu2 jadi orang ketiga. Dan gaya bahasanya aneh sekali. Eh, biasa saja sebenarnya, mendekati Bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar. Tapi tidak hidup kalau disesuaikan dengan setting zaman sekarang. Lalu... saya harus baca ulang dulu, agar bisa menuliskan hal-hal lain yang tidak saya ingat sekarang.

Sử Ta - Chuyện Xưa Kể Lại (Tập 4) Thư viện Sách hướng dẫn

This detective novel, set in Shanghai in the early 2000's is delightful. The author vividly portrays life in modern China and the long impact of the Cultural Revolution, which continues to affect all of the characters. The motives of the victim, the possible perpetrators, and the police performing the investigation are all reflected. Political pressure, social standing, and economic class influence all the characters in different ways. As an American who has never visited China, I found the story compelling and the "foreignness" of the setting engrossing and believable. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to travel and who enjoys a mystery.

I found this book fascinating; not a whole lot happens in terms of plot, but it was so interesting to read what life might have been like for a Medieval woman. Everything from parenting, to food, to work, to the homes they lived in...it's incredible to get some idea of how different life was. Really made me glad to live in the 21st century, that's for sure!

** spoiler alert ** I debated on what to rate this. I'll stick with 2*, since that's what goodreads considers 'it was ok' which is how I felt. I decided while listening to this book that I don't really care for the characters that much. Is is horrible that I wanted Simon to die the several times it was a close call? I didn't feel excited about finishing the book, but rather something I should just do. that being said, I'll still listen to the next book, since it's already on my zune =)
