I wasn't too excited to be reading from Eve's perspective. I didn't really like her and definitely didn't like Kristof, but by the end of this book I had completely changed my mind! This book was so much fun and had me on the edge of my seat! The conflict was awesome and I just could not get enough of this book! Eve and Kristof slowly won me over and soon enough I was right there rooting for them. I really disliked the fates until the end of this book, then I saw how cool they really are. I am still speechless and I finished this book days ago! It was so much fun tagging along with Eve and seeing her grow and start to let go of Savannah. Kristof even came across as a great father, when I actually thought him a poor one. This book really shocked me, but it was fun and adventurous, intriguing and heartfelt, and I couldn't ask for more! This book was definitely a unique on compared to the others in this series, and it was a great installment. I am so happy I read this book, and I can't wait to see what Armstrong is going to throw at me next!

The most amazing part of reading this book was realizing that it was written in the 1920’s, when it read like something written yesterday. The impact Hemingway has had on American fiction is proven by the way writers continue to try to copy Hemingway’s unique style. Not only is Hemingway writing style seem out of place for his time period, but the lifestyle that he portrays through his characters seem strangely modern. The story of addiction, violence, apathy, laziness and lust make this story timeless.

** spoiler alert ** Dark, intense beginning of a series about members of the mafia. Novella setting up the characters and the attraction between the MCs. I'm not usually a fan of reading about criminals still doing crime but this book pulled me right in. The scene setting is fabulous. Makes you feel like you are right there with the characters (even though I wouldn't want to be!). Since it's the start of a series, can only rate on what I've read so far. This is a very dark story, though, so will be interesting to see how the series advances. Beautiful book cover. Warning: For those who want to know...there's a scene that is dubious consent, a scene with rough sex and one of the MCs is married. Although no sex happens with the married MC in this volume, the attraction, thoughts and intent are there for the future.

Rereading this book, I actually found it a little less magisterial - perhaps because Ellroy's told and retold his story several other times since. In particular, the biography and case history of the retired detective Ellroy works with the investigate the decades old homicide of Ellroy's mother just feels like a digression, Ellroy's obsession with procedural true-crime getting in the way of telling his personal story. The personal story is, however amazingly bold and touching. Ellroy's novels are always outlandish and fearless, but his skills have a special impact when applied to the self-disclosure of an extremely painful life.

this is one of my favorite romance books! tessa dare is a good romance author and im excited to read the other books in this series! however, that didn't mean i didn't have problems with this book. the first time i read it, i was getting so mad at the main characters obvious ploys to win whats-his-face's heart.i was embarrassed for the character and i hate when that happens! also, this is one of those books where the character fancies themselves in love with someone and then all of a sudden they're like you know what? i didn't love them.in fact, i wondered if i ever did. &we're left thinking, how is that possible?! another black mark against this book would be the fact that towards the end, the characters were like completely different people than what they started off being. &this is one of those romance books where the couples have these problems after they marry, and then they don't really talk/fight and it's just kind of a downer. however, this was overall, a good book and i want to buy it!
