I love this book very, very much. It's vivid and beautiful and playful, and feeds my mythology obsession perfectly. You read now.

When i finished this I just started re-reading the whole thing over again and I've never done this with any other book. I thought it was stunning. I just loved it. I understand why people may shy away from it or deem it 'boring' as there's very little 'action'. But i really don't care. It's just fabulous. I wanted to say that it was beautifully written, but that really doesn't do it justice. I will just say that it is about the most perfect book that i've ever had the pleasure of reading... and re-reading... and re-reading...

It was ok. I think I read it because it took place in a library and there was some cool stuff in it, but it got so bogged down in the history and intrigue that several times, especially at the end, I forgot what the point was. I actually had to ask myself what would be the resolution to end the book?

A story about a Puerto Rican boy who gets mixed up with a gang in Harlem. Sanctimonious and religious, but with some good details.

But for a layer of fantasy, this book pictures the last days of Al-Andalus and the Reconquista, and the struggle of the main characters to find some peace, honor, dignity and freedom in the midst of religious bigotry in a land that was changing forever. At times slow and at times deeply touching, the story improves along the way, until the reader ends up with the heart in tatters thinking of a world that could have been. In any case, I would also recommend Amin Maalouf's Leo Africanusto whoever liked GGK's Al-Rassan.

A good play to be introduced to the arid wit of Beckett, Waiting for Godot fortifies Beckett's previous entreaty to the implacable passing of time and how we (the scurrying humans) choose to use the lives we have been granted. By emphasizing the banality of meaningless existence with sparse harangues about life and death, Beckett touches on the one strain connecting all humans: purpose.

Considering that I'm supposed to be an embalmer (according to one of those two-hour job placement tests), this book was right up my alley. The science of bodies after they are dead is explained by a appealingly dorky non-scientist in language we can all understand. Covers all sort of different "lives" of cadavers, including the art of decomposition at the Body Farm; heads used for practice for plastic surgeons; etc. Highly entertaining as well as informative!
My favourtie part of the book is the prolouge. It made my skin tingle with goosebumps, and how could anyone not possibly love the author's description of Allegra? Oh, I've got the urge to read Persuasion now.
