My favorite book. Tragedy, romance, history, suspense, and a great ending.

Felt like a short story. Very well written, of course. The story wasn't as strong as some of Johnson's later books, which seem to flow more more easily (then again, later books don't deal with death, and even when she's writin' 'bout satan, it's funny), but even so, the woman can turn a phrase. Glad that she's dropped the beer/condoms/sex stuff, though. That was all a little too Judy Blume for me. There wasn't an abundance of information in the way of personal details, but I could easily picture the girls. Palmer pretty much broke my heart, I wanted to slap Brooks, and I liked May, as I like all of Maureen Johnson's leading ladies. The character of their mother could've been more fleshed out. All we ever learned about her is that she used to wear fishnets and have spikey hair. The revelation that she was a lot like May as a teenager (despite the fishent!!) was sorta weak. Felt the overwhelming urge to cryyyy when I'd finished.

Shel Silverstein is a poet genius. Although his poems are made for 3rd graders (or below) I LOVE HIS POEMS! There's one that i remember that's written in a circle and it goes on and on and i love it. It's so silly. I am not a poetry fan but Shel Silverstein's poems can never get old for anyone. His concrete poems are always my favorite. I would suggest reading some of his poems to anyone of any age because they're so great and if you haven't experienced his poems you're missing out!

You know, for how hard I cried and how hard I raged, I probably should give this a lower rating. but it is a very good book and as sad/angry it made me, I did still like it. I just should know better than to read books about dogs because they always make me cry.

The first time I read this book, I was so outraged that Scarlett would steal her sister's boyfriend that I threw the book across the room and wouldn't read it again for days, until I calmed down. Amazing, AMAZING characters.

When I first started reading, I was immediately engrossed. Butcher never fails to push the boundaries of Harry's world or the lessons he learns along the way. This time around, Harry is the n00b on the block. He doesn't know the limitations or extent of his power as a shade and is forced to rely on others for support (much to his dismay). Seeing him figure out these capabilities was absolutely awesome! In fact, I think that's what Heroes on NBC lacked - I was desperately waiting to see if Peter Petrelli would come into his full power but never did. SO FRUSTRATING - Go, Harry for being such a badass! Additionally, I love the life-lessons that Butcher weaves into every single story. Time and time again, Harry's internal monologue elicits the core lessons of believing in your values, living your life to it's fullest, and never forgetting how lucky you. (Especially considering Harry's state in this book). But the end? Really, Jim? This is the first time I was a bit disappointed. You always (without fail) wrap up nearly every loose end on the block. Yet, you left a number of gaping holes this time around. What happened to Evil Bob/good Bob? I was so pumped that you brought this guy back, only to leave a major story thread open! Also, where is Harry's amulet and Nevernever ways/map stone? Why was Harry able to talk to Mouse in the last book but now suddenly he can't (especially considering that he's logicked his way into a number of awesome realizations throughout this book)? What was the final conclusion on He Who Walks Behind? Why was Uriel so involved in this whole "spirit quest" thing and how was he in contact with Mab/Demonreach? Who were the Fomor? Who was Corpsetaker working for? I get it - you're conveniently setting up for your next book. But don't stray from your time-honored formula. I love your work for the journey but don't disappoint me with so many hanging threads!

Really only for those interested in medicine. I think it was important for me while I was applying to med schools to reassure myself of the mindset I wanted. Outside of that it is a fairly bland read

started strong; interesting character; really slow in many parts, especially secction 4; sex was too graphic for my taste

This is a compelling book that draws you in. The end is VERY deep -- and might surprise you.
