If Mary Roach had written this, I'd have finished it. Interesting subject, but boring to read.

It took me awhile to figure out if I really liked this novel..because it's one of those stories with no definite conclusion. When Angelica turns four, it seems as if something or someone is sexually attacking her and her mother, Constance. Is it a malicious spirit, as Constance suspects, hence her hiring of a spiritualist? Or is the father, Joseph, a sexual predator? Or could Constance be seeing "ghosts" from her childhood and is transfering those fears onto her daughter? Or is she just suffering from womanly "hysteria" as suspected by Joseph. By the end of the novel, which is narrated by the adult Angelica, the answer still is not clear, which seems to be the whole point of the book. How does one's childhood memories affect their adult life? How much should one believe certain memories or were they just put there by the suggestions of others?

This was a mix of essays that included ones I really enjoyed, another few that were interesting, another that got me all fired up about the environment, another that made me cry, and another that wished I could talk to the author in person. I did not care for her style of writing.

This is so good, I'm holding off on reading the last story because I don't want it to be over.

For Bryson, the humor is sometimes a bit forced...but often enough the better Bryson reappears and gives us what we expect from him: the tragically funny side of life. This memoir of his Iowan boyhood in the 1950s and early 60s really does make one nostalgic for an era forever gone.

I was manipulated by Border's marketing department into buying this book. I had never read a Stephen King book. I never will. I read the first third of this book, couldn't believe I'd spent twentysome dollars on the thing, and put it away for good. Maybe it gets better, but I'll never know.

Ukiah Oregon is a very lovable character and I enjoy reading about him and his friends. I enjoyed this second book of the series very much and the third one is already on my TBR pile!
