Sniff! What a sad but happy book. Good school-age picture book for dog lovers. Also, although the medium is not listed, I think this is one of the more successful digitally illustrated books I've seen.

I'm not so much for long narratives, and this book is one of them. The story is about the aftermath of meteor showers as a lot have thought them to be. Almost all people went blind except for a few. Recovery was initiated by small groups, but the triffids, plants who seem to have a mind of their own slowed the process. The story mentioned 6 years since the tragic circumstances started. Even after this time, triffids were still abounding, and man was still fighting to eradicate them. That's where it ended, with a few words to give some glimpse of hope into the future. For all it's long narratives, I was still left wanting at the end. The chaos was still there, albeit an organized chaos. Nothing has changed except that there were now more people (babies conceived and born after the tragedy). The struggle to fight off the triffids was still there. I believe the lesson that the author wanted his readers to take is that man will fight to survive, and to go on living, he'll make do with what's available for him. The lesson can be gleamed from the story alright, it just wasn't much of a reading pleasure for me.

Ten years ago Lilly Carmichael had left Hudson Bay and had broken Braden Donnelly's heart but had now come back home as her aunt had died. Braden was now the town sheriff and had been tracking down a serial killer and it now becomes obvious that both he and Lilly are the connection to the murders and is determined to protect her from this psychotic killer. Lilly was an NSA Analyst and field agent who had been captured and tortured a year ago and was suffering with PTSD. Thrown back together to try and find the serial killer re-ignited the spark between them but Braden still didn't know why she had to leave town all those years ago and Lilly still doesn't really want to tell him as there was no point dredging up the past. This was a fast paced with a good balance of romance and suspense and kept us gripped until the end. I don't want to give too much away but I did however guess who must have been the serial killer but just couldn't work out how the author would lay out the finer details. I know that this sounds a little confusing but will become apparent and make sense to the reader as the plot unfolds. I liked both Lilly and Braden although I was a bit cross at Lilly for not telling Braden why she felt she had to leave town. It was a bit unfair to just leave him wondering why and to break his heart but then they were young (18) so understandable. This is the first Katie Reus book I have read and it won't be the last! Talk about formative literature of my teenage years. Thank you, Judy Blume, for writing books like this.

Great first book...how lust gets sapped out of a relationship by a ghost...European period scenes are contrived though.

Perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect.
This book began my love affair with Stephanie Plum's world. There are so many laugh out loud moments in this book (and throughout the series) you might want to read it in private. If you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for?? You are lucky to have so many hours of fun ahead of you.

Does it count to have listened to it on tape? :) I love and respect Oscar Wilde immensely. Everything he writes is so delightfully naughty. This is the playwright's only novel. I recommend this book to my teenage students. It deals with some rather unique themes: the love, worship, and eventual inevitable loss of physical beauty as art; the Faustian bargain; the decadence of the era; murder, confession, absolution. This is a great read--if you have a hard time getting through copious amounts of proper British conversation, you might want to not read this while sitting in bed at night. It's the perfect rainy day, tea, blanket, and introspective thought novel.

This was definetly not one of my favorites. It kinda jumped from here to there, everywhere really. Not much of a fan, but that wont stop me from reading :)

I think it's extremely interesting that a Norwegian man and a woman from Louisiana could have so much in common as far as societal observation goes. Because, seriously, I just read "The Awakening" and...yeah. As far as that goes, though, I think I prefer Hedda Gabler. I just like Ibsen's writing better, I think (and I read two translations at once, which was a REAL trip.) Also, Ibsen's characters were kind of hilarious. I'm not saying that I didn't poke fun at everyone in "The Awakening" (because I totally did) but I didn't even have to go out of my way to make fun of the characters in "Hedda Gabler." But, yeah. All of the characters kind of annoyed me in this one, too. I didn't like anyone (which pains me. I need to latch onto SOMEONE, dammit) but at least the plot was fairly interesting. Maybe it's because I've read too many books and plays, but a lot of it seemed pretty obvious as far as what was going to happen. =/ So, yeah. I liked the plot. I liked the writing. I didn't like the characters .... but I think that was the point. So, 3.0 Stars
