The newest story about Cat and Bones is at last here! The sixth book in the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, “One Grave At a Time” is officially one of my favorite in the series! Like in the previous books, here we have a mystery case that must be solved. This time we have a dead witch hunter who takes physical form once a year so he can kill innocent women. So, Cat and Bones, for once again they can’t be in peace! With the help of their friends (old and new ones) they try to stop this sadistic ghost. In this book, Cat and Bones have a nice without complications relationship. In fact, we can clearly see how deep is their love after so many years. Both of them are more mature and they are thinking before reacting. Especially Bones. He’s more careful now. He knows that now that he has new powers because of his advanced position in the vampire world and that he isn’t alone anymore but he’s married (at least in the vampire world) he has to be more careful. He doesn’t want to be far from Cat but he’s not unreasonable when this is necessary. He loves her and he’s so proud of her for all the things she has accomplished. But Cat is more mature also and, of course, now she is a happier woman. OK, she has enough problems with the ghost and with the new operations consultant for the team, but with Bones things are better than ever. She’s trying, as always, to do her best to help who is in need and she has her husband to help her. For the first time she realizes how deep is Bones’ love for her and this makes her feel stronger. Of course, as always happens in this series, there are some great secondary characters. Spade at Denise, Cat’s mother, Fabian the ghost and…. Ian! I’m too weird if I admit that I absolutely love Ian??????? I don’t know when it started but now it’s too late for me! He has the best scenes in the book and I think I need a whole book about him!!! So, I recommend the book to all the fans and I’m sure that they will enjoy it as I did!

This is the first book I've ever read by Catherine Coulter and I only did so because she was on the (extensive) list of Recommends by Amazon. I thought it was... okay. I probably didn't pick the best book to start off with. Many of the characters are returning characters. I didn't start off with a good idea of their relationships but she did do a good job of linking them all in a way that is understandable. But there were so many characters and just an oddly intricate plotline that ended up wrapping up a little too neatly. What could have been a standard (but good) story of a woman suspected of killing her husband became this strange morass of spiritualism (the psychic kind), a possibly dead woman and an odd doppleganger. Otherwise, for me, she has the same problem Julie Garwood does: she uses too many words. She doesn't seem to know where to stop and she overdoes it. But she also has a problem all her own: the storyline was cold. The relationships between everyone seemed cold. There wasn't any chemistry between any of them, even the ones who supposedly fall so deeply for each other, they suddenly have sex in a stranger's home, in their exercise room. For me, that's probably the worst crime of this book: no chemistry. There's no blushing, no rush of blood, no sighs, no looks, nothing that translates to chemistry, to falling in love. There's no indication of WHY Julia and Cheney fall in love. All you hear are psychics who prattle off things like, "I see your auras. [Cheney's:] is calmer, more blue while [Julia's:] is more red, angrier. But where your auras merge and blend, Cheney's aura seems to calm Julia's down and creates a more seductive sense." or "I see that you and Cheney will have sex within the week" (which, nice and subtle, right?). It fails in the SHOW ME, DON'T TELL ME bit of entertainment. Am I going to try another book? Sure. I mean, I know Julie Garwood's books will make me angry but I keep reading. I figure it's part of my sunny, optimistic nature. ... no, seriously.
