Really good - a light, undemanding read for girls. Extremely funny and uplifting moments for anyone who has put up with others' children, looked after their own, had their heart broken, or got a bit fat.

A great little book for ready-for-chapter-book readers! Told in King's "voice," The Case of the Lost Boy starts with King in the pound, hoping his owners (who have mysteriously failed to return home from a trip) will come for him. King is adopted by a mom for her son Connor, who is NOT happy to have moved away from his home and friends after his parents' divorce. When Connor goes missing while on a walk with Buddy (King's new name), Buddy is determined to do all he can to help find the boy. This one does not solve the overarching mystery (where are BUDDY'S people?!) but has a nice, completed story arc in the meantime. Buddy is thoroughly likable, the characters are believable, and the plot line is clear-- an excellent start to the series!

I do not know how I remained ignorant of M.F.K Fisher's work until now. Her prose is gorgeous, her wit is biting, and her ideas about food are beautiful and true. I think everyone should read this book, not in the least because so much of what she talks about in 1942 still holds true today. This book offers essential insight into the relationship all people should cultivate with food. About the only thing not to recommend about the book are some of the recipes, which at the worst are entertainingly dated. And no matter what M.F.K. says, turnips are delicious. Truly a timeless masterpiece.

Just about every book will elicit different reactions from people based on their age. This book is definitely in that category. It's the story of two octogenarians, a husband and wife, taking one last vacation together. The wife, Ella, has chosen to stop treatment on her cancer; the husband, John, suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Their grown children, unsurprisingly, are totally against this trip, a drive in their motor home (The Leisure Seeker) along Route 66 to Disneyland. The book is by turns sweet and sadly realistic. There are moments when John is lucid enough for the couple to regain some of the loving playfulness they had at a younger age. There are moments when his dementia drives Ella to dispair and angry words. But they keep on plugging away toward their destination, stopping at campgrounds and motels along the way. They have brought on this trip a slide projector and their slide collection and spend many an evening enjoying a slide show of family vacations gone by. I found myself cheering for the old guys. Younger people who read this may be hoping for the children to bring those old geezers "to their senses." Whatever you think, it's a story of two people near the end of their lives who are taking life into their own hands and I have to say that I admired them.
After reading this book I spent a few hours laughing and crying at the same time as I rethought my existence.
The last in the trilogy. Loved this one although I both hated and loved the ending, for obvious and not so obvious reasons. Still excellent writing. Great clean book. Great magic system. Wish there were more like these.
Wow. Just wow. Did I say wow already? The best book I've read so far this year, without reservation. Let me elaborate, because I think it's necessary. I don't usually read Contemporary Romance. It's just not my thing. They are formulaic and boring to me. This is not that book. The characters are deep and damaged. The pain that haunts Michael leaps off the pages and wrenches the heart. Honestly, I've never read so much of a book with tears in my eyes. If there is any downside to this book, it's that if you are extremely sensitive it might be too much for you. I'm not kidding, it hurts that much. However, following along while they conquer the hurdles is a wonderful experience that is worth every moment of sniffling. Deidre Knight writes characters unlike any I've met in a long while. An absolutely amazing book that gives you an emotional ride you won't soon forget.
cute read.

This was the first book I ever read that didn't tie up in a happily-ever-after ending. It portrayed teens in the way they truley are. It shows how cruel high school can really be. Many people are unhappy with this title, but I find that it rings true in a haunting way. This is the title that made me read every Cormier title and fall in love with his writing.

4.5 stars I only started reading romance a few years ago and prior to that I read mostly scifi/fantasy. So it's great to find a scifi romance for Science Fiction fans. DS does a great job with the terra-forming and with the futuristic lingo and artifacts/weapons he has created. His 'science' is very plausible in this HardCell 'verse. The author has created two memorable characters in Runt and Ox. Runt's loneliness and Ox's simple pleasure in the ocean and open spaces are just a couple of the endearing aspects of their personalities. The size difference sometimes bothers me but overall I love this series and will be waiting impatiently for the next release.
