A book based on the Bible that was completely accurate. I started reading it not sure if it was going to be actually based on one of the biblical stories, and throughout the novel I had some doubts as to where it was going, but the moment that Jesus came into the picture I said to myself..."BRILLIANT." The way that the characters were laid out and how Marah overcame so much through her life, and to be scorned like that and to come out fighting is inspiring. The mistakes that the characters made and the deaths that occurred at times made me very frustrated, but they all fit well with the overall story. There were only a couple of things that didn't quite add up like how the timeline fit for Ahmal for a bit, but I think that it still was very well written. From what I read the scenes were accurate and there was no mistakes on the history. What I really like was that there was a link to more than one biblical story in the book. I figured out the first story, but then there was another part that was a parable in the bible and then there was one more. The way they all seemed to work as well was brilliant work on the authors part. The Epilogue was intriguing as it completed the story. It finalized it, showing that all the loose ends were tied and there was no more mysteries to be worried about. A book that I would recommend to many people.

I was thrilled and shocked and enthralled with this book! I really wanted to punch Benny Imura during that first part, but he matured enough by the end to have my loyalty. The one I really want to get to know (age thing) is Tom Imura. A very different way of engaging zombies in a book - loved the approach! Can.not.wait! to read the second book.

This book works well with the "Feasting on Asphalt" DVD series. Not only does it have great photographs (taken by one of the other members of the trip) but also has insightful stories and commentary about each section of their journey. Alton writes in his normal witty manner, highlights some of the restaurants and places they stopped, and shares some recipes along the way. Some of the recipes are directly from the people that cooked the meal that Alton and his crew enjoyed and others are Alton's best approximation of the menu items. It's a bargain at its current price and I highly recommend it for any fan of Alton.

it's miracle,....
This book was very good because of the main idea. You have to read until the end because I think that the end is the best part of the whole book. There are so many details to keep you interested in the book.
So technically my mom read this to me (again, and again, and again), and I don't remember there being a boy and girl version. But I do remember getting this book from the library over and over again.

i think this book attracts the sort of people that will like it. they're the masochists that say, "sure, it's a long book, but gravity's rainbow is long too and i almost finished that one." granted, that's me, or i pretend to be someone like that. anyways, what to say? it's post-modern, literate, and very funny. set in the future, our government has allowed each calendar year to be sponsored by a corporation. think, "2011 - brought to you by tampax". there's a love story, a set of wheelchaired-Québécois-assassins, a cross-dressing drug addict, a subplot about the perfect piece of cinema, and tennis.

** spoiler alert ** I love this book. After reading the first chapter,I couldn't stop myself form reading... I have to admit that the first character ( we never get to know her name besides the Mrs. de Winter appellative), very insecure, shy and doubtful about everything annoyed me, but her way of fantasizing about the worse things and imagining scenarios and conversations is, in fact, quite interesting. The setting was perfect. I was fascinated by the rigid yet complex lives people around Manderly lead. By the way the head servant, the devilish and creepy Mrs. Danvers managed to keep Rebecca's old room still full of her presence, and the way she always succeeded in making things worse for the de Winter family. I was very disappointed at the end, tough, because I really find it hard to picture Maxim de Winter without Manderly, and because I loved that english manor, with the simple architecture lines, yet the dominant and charming atmosphere they created; with the forest and the creek, the rose garden and the Valley of Happiness.

Despite the cliche liberal art student angst, this book sucked me in and I finished it quickly.
