I really enjoyed this book. The thing about Brandon Mull is that he is not your typical YA writer, he makes his characters younger so there isn't a whole lot of really horrible things that happen to them, bad things DO happen, just in a different YA book you'd expect it to be much, much worse. So I often gear myself up, getting very anxious that something really awful is about to happen and its never as bad as I think! :) My only real issue with this book is that the characters weren't necessarily memorable, I kept having to remind myself who that was when they would leave the story and come back later. Maybe that was because I was tired, maybe not. ;) Definitely a good read though, excited for the rest of the series!

Took 2 tries to read this book because I wasn't in the mood the first time. BUT...the second time it became one of the best books I ever read. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. My favorite book by this author.

interesting twist as you get into it and figure out the true relationship of the brothers. the "blurb" defines it as a funny [as in ha ha:] book. i didn't see it that way at all. i did enjoy the heck out of it.

Man braucht Geduld und Durchhaltevermögen für dieses Buch. Es hat zwischendurch seine Längen. Vieles ist verwirrend, da der Autor einen ausgeprägten Komma-Fetisch besitzt und sehr gerne ellenlange Sätze in Klammern dazuschreibt. Aufgrund der langen Sätze mit den vielen Einschüben und Gedankensprüngen, musste ich einige Absätze mehrmals lesen. Das nur als Warnung. Aber es hat mir inhaltlich enorm gut gefallen. Der Grundton war so wunderbar nachdenklich- melancholisch. Die Charaktere sind alle sie selbst. Man hat nicht den Eindruck, dass es sich hier um erfundene Personen handelt, sondern um real existierende, die der Autor brillant beobachtet und beschrieben hat. Trotz der ein oder anderen Schwierigkeit hat mir das Buch sehr gut gefallen.

Very good. It had themes and motifs, it really tied everything together, it had a powerful message, etc. At the same time it was very sad, since it was about loss, tragedy, mourning, surviving, etc. I'm glad I read it and I'm glad I'm finished reading it so I don't have to read it anymore. I'll probably read Jonathan Safran Foer's first book, but I'll wait a while first and read some more lighthearted fare.

Not my favorite of the series. I didn't get quite as enthralled in the politics of the vampire royalty as I have in some plots, and I could see the plot device coming from the time it was first introduced. Still moving the series plot forward and not terrible, but not the most fun, either.

Encontré este libro realmente ... extraño. Estaba muy confundido la mayor parte del tiempo. Entiendo que hay dos mundos diferentes y Ava está / estuvo en ambos. Pero la trama del mundo donde ella está ahora, y la trama del mundo del que ella vino, estaban todos mezclados. Traté de mantenerlos rectos pero no pude. El único personaje que realmente me gustó fue Jane. Me senti muy mal por ella. Todo lo que quería era a su hija, su Ava, y se podía ver cuánto quería ser amada y que su "hija" la dejara amarla. Realmente no me importaba ninguno de los otros personajes. Creo que como estaban involucrados en ambos mundos, los confundí y no me conecté con ellos. No se. Diré que me mantuvo interesado. Quería saber qué estaba pasando, tanto con lo que le sucedió a los Ava de nuestro mundo como por qué los Ava del otro mundo fueron atraídos a este mundo. Pero no creo que realmente haya recibido las respuestas. O si lo hiciera, ¡simplemente no los entiendo!
