THIS WAS THE MOST PERFECT ENDING FOR THE GONE SERIES!!!!!!! I absolutely loved this series and "Light" did not disappoint me at all! Though I was sad during many parts of the story, I was sort of satisfied with the story. I think Michael Grant did an excellent job keeping the character's true personality and not making everything happy and sweet-like-candy at the end. That would not really be realistic or fitting in the story. This was a fabulous ending to the series. I loved how everything had a meaning in the book and nothing was left out. Thank you Michael Grant for creating a fantastic and interesting new world!

So far, this book feels gimmicky and overwritten. I'm having trouble getting through it. I so very much wanted this to be a good read. . . As of today, it is most likely that I will never finish this book. It is not what I wanted it to be. it's dry, tedious, overwritten, and dull. I expected so much more from such an intriguing premise. I'm done. It's going back on my to-read shelf and we'll see if it resurfaces.

The information provided lays out some concepts that seem intuitive now, which made it all the more interesting when considering what happened in history to achieve this new thinking. The writing style has been noted by some as "flowery" or "verbose" (to them I'd say avoid Hawthorne) but I did not find such criticism warranted. The chapters are lengthy at 50-60 pgs each which isn't the style I prefer and there certainly is a lot of repetition in making his points. However, in the author's defense, the repetition helps the information stick, especially when dealing with many different regions, dates, and diseases. Overall, the book is a good read (see what I did there) and works as a precursor to Diamond's "Guns, Germs, & Steel." Highly recommended for all vax-deniers.

No one writes pop culture like Klosterman. I hated the cover, loved the book. I knew I liked the book because it interested me in things I never normally would have cared about, ex. the Lakers-Celtics rivalry and the Left Behind series. Especially the Left Behind Series. He knows how to pick his subjects. Who wouldn't love a book that says, "Doesn't anyone here own Appetite for Destruction? Do these people not realize that even if you wake up around seven, you're not supposed to get out of bed until nine?" The thing is, when Klosterman's being a jerk, he calls himself out on it before you can, therefore once again making it funny. I love pretty much everything that drips from his pen.

I can't help but be fascinated by the loners and hold-outs living in the dangerous and life-threatening places detailed in this book. I suppose that's the whole point though. There are people unwilling to give up their homes even if they're located on an active volcano or through a mountain tunnel. Some have good reason, like hiding from abusive exes, but most are just stubborn and so unwilling to accept change that they're now hermits in their own homes. Likable hermits though!
