If I could give this book NO stars, I would.
Another one that my daughter recommended, and loaned to me. Like her, there were parts at which I laughed, loudly. A fun, fun book.

One of the most amazing facts this book offers is that in all of humanity's known history, there has been less than half a century of peace (I can't recall the exact number). The author is an NYTimes war correspondent, and he approches the phenomenon of war from a philosophical perspective, which stems --and has been marinating-- from his experiences in Central America and the Balkans. There's been many writings (books, essays) that tackle the draw, the spell of war. Adrenaline, drug... but none seemed to have a strong enough basis. This book, however, comes close to defining --and proving-- the seduction of war. A fault line of this book, though, is that Hedges bases his musings on the Western literature of combat. If war is such an universal force --and it's proven--, it'd be worth to examine how the idiosyncracies of other civilizarions taint the experience of war, i.e. Sun Tzu's "The Art of War."

They’re back! The delightful O’Conner sisters we’ve fallen in love with and watched as they fell in love with Mitch and Collin. This time we treated to Beth’s story, she’s come of age, cut her hair short and changed her name to Lizzie and she’s after Brady. Brady fights his attraction to Beth. He has a secret past that he can’t seem to accept that forgiveness has been given. He tries to see Beth as anything but a Lizzie. Will he be able to fight off an O’Conner woman? A Passion Denied gave me something most series books fail to deliver. Lessman doesn’t let previous characters wither away, she keeps them alive and part of the story. They don’t just marry or move away and live happily ever after. We get to see what happens to Charity and Faith as newlyweds. This book has several twists I didn’t see coming and wasn’t quite sure how they would be resolved. Once again Lessman delivers a book worth savoring.

I really enjoy Joanne Harris' writing. This book held an element of mystery throughout, but I was a bit disappointed at the end. She certainly has a way of telling a story, though. Perhaps my reading Gentlemen and Players biased me, since that was truly amazing and anything else from her can hardly measure up!
