A rather disappointing book. In his investigation into a murder/suicide of a high profile gay couple, Inspector Banks philosophizes about music, literature, the performing arts and intimate relationships in general. Theorizing that the crime may be driven by jealousies explored in Shakespeare's "Othello", he uncovers a list of suspects and government officials who would prefer he just go away. Tenacious as always, Banks cannot let it go. Additionally he is in the beginning stages of a possible romantic attachment himself. I found the exploration of music, taste and culture a little heavy handed. The plot moved too slowly for me and I found myself not really caring for the characters or the resolution of the mystery. With so many thrillers out there, this is one series I will forgo for now.

GSB. 7/2011 Read this up to Star Valley. Given by Terry Jamison. He is real history buff. Wayne Wilde also read it. IT gives insight into how the black people have been treated. Sad what he went through to discover so much of American and then when it was over he was back to not being important to the expectition. He went with Lewis and Clark.

Jane is chill I suppose but WTF was up with those dudes, Mr. Rochester is THE WORST (Jane, OK Jane, leave. Jane! Where are you going Jane! Stay! Jane, I thought you were leaving. Jane, stay here!) and St. John is basically the SECOND WORST, jeez. Also I was amused how she constantly mentions how ugly everyone is. Austen FTW, sorry Char.

‘Ten Rules For Living With My Sister’ is the newest book written by Ann M. Martin, who is best known for her ‘Babysitters Club’ series. While ‘Ten Rules’ is intended for a slightly younger audience it is an interesting, gripping and ultimately satisfying book; though, it did not engross me a much as the ‘Babysitters Club’ books did when I was younger. This is a YA book that best suits those from 7-12 and deals with a lot of important issues, namely how to deal with alzheimer’s disease. I thought that the inclusion of a grandfather with alzheimer’s was very timely and would allow for children who read the book to see what the characteristics of the disease are and allow them to learn more about the disease. While the book was light in other places, it seemed to me that it was pretty cliche: older sister dislikes younger sister, younger sister keeps a journal, younger sister not well-liked at school, parents don’t have much time for the kids. It was not that the book wasn’t well written, it just didn’t seem very original. However, for a YA audience that won’t matter as much. Overall, ‘Ten Rules For Living With My Sister’ is a fun and interesting read and recommended for YA readers. http://likeitido.com/2011/08/24/ten-r...

The Lifted Veil is a haunting, creepy and thought-provoking short story. I enjoyed it very much. The story is 664 Kindle locations. I wish it had been a little longer. I feel the author could have offered us much more following the death of the lady's maid. While this story is short, it isn't a quick read. You'll want to slow down to capture the emotion in Eliot's writing. This story reminded me of Wuthering Heights. That book is a retelling of a tragic life. The Lifted Veil is a foretelling of another sad existence. If you were to narrate your life story, which would you rather do?

The anthology was a fun summer read and I liked Libba Bray's and Claudia Gray's stories quite a bit.
