Well written book, but really hard to get through emotionally. It just left me feeling drained for a couple of days. As I wrote in a comment to Heidi, I usually enjoy reading for an escape from the redundance of my life; this book was life and its challenges at its finest. But the message of how one choice can change your life forever, no matter how you try to compensate for it, is a powerful one. And then you just get to choose how you deal with the consequences that follow, you don't get to choose the consequences themselves.

i think it was an interesting and revealing story i advice you to read this book :)
So far, it's a quick read and fascinating in the same way that a train wreck is: horrifying, but I can't look away. I grew up in a big city; I wonder how realistically this book describes the feelings associated with growing up in a small town?
Collection of boss's nova record cover artwork published by Soul Jazz Records. This was compiled by Gilles Peterson & Stuart Baker - nuff said. Along with my book on Blue Note covers - an inspiration to graphic designers and art lovers alike.

This is a great romantic suspense, and I loved trying to work out the intricacies of the plot. The mystery about who everyone was and what their motives were was very well done. The historic details were very interesting, and I loved the “midwife” aspect of the story. There were only two small things that weren’t to my taste. I felt like the wording could have been better in a few areas, but that was very seldom. The other thing was that at the end of the book, in the final conflict where everything comes to light, it ends in the “middle” of the scene. So you just hear about what happened from later on in the next chapter. That could have been changed in my opinion, but it wasn’t a “deal-breaker” for me. It didn’t hurt the story; I just thought it would have been improved if that were different. In all, I think this is a great book and I look forward to reading more in this series!

I'm not quite sure how to express my feelings regarding this book. It was extremely interesting and thought provoking with moments of humor, wit, sorrow, and love, but overall I am uncertain what I was supposed to have gained emotionally or intellectually. Rose is an engaging character who eloquently moves you through the emotional states of her mother, mainly, whilst desperately seeking something from her father and enduring unending detachment from her brother. There are some beautiful moments between Rose and George, Rose and Joseph, Rose and each of her parents, that I think is what I will remember the most from this book because they were truly moving and touched on the heart of human connections.
