Wow. One of the most creative and most "out there" science fiction stories I've read. I really enjoyed the ride though. I have to admit, I didn't always understand everything that was going on, but I understood enough to like it. The plot is tricky and imaginative. The action scenes are super cool. There are even a few funny parts. I listened to the audiobook from audible.com. The narrator had an interesting voice (think HAL from 2001), but he did a wonderful job. I think that added to the craziness of the whole thing. I'd definitely recommend it, and I'm looking forward to the second one.

Well this was a fun book! Sure I can get into the little things like how the author promotes a message of evil hunters poor animals.. But you take from things what you want and leave behind what you don't and those messages were appropriate for this type of fantasy. It was well written and the story flowed with some twists and turns which kept it interesting and it had all resolves itself in the end! Everyone in the book had gotten a HEA and it all wrapped up sweetly with love can conquer all theme! And that is precisey why I chose a book like this so I wasn't surprised nor was I left disapointed in the end! So if your looking for fairy tale romance, magic of the fae and a love of nature, it's all here in a fun story!

This took me Forever to read, but I cannot deny that on some level I enjoyed the story and the world. I really struggled with it though.

This book was terribly dark. It gave me a stomach ache the whole time I read it. I really, really didn't like it. It was a short read, but so full of sex and drugs. Hated it.

FAAABBBUULLLOOOUUSSSS BOOK!! The third part of the book was amazing.. I never knew that the author could pull it off so well. Great Book. Loved the series..
A bit more polished than the first one, though I still don't understand why the main character insists on walking right up to a wandering zombie and blasting it with a firearm, when he knows for certain that the report of the gun will attract many more zombies. Why doesn't he learn? He knows that remaining silent is important, he knows that he can handle a single roamer without a firearm, he knows that he's putting himself in danger by continuing to dispatch the odd wanderer with a firearm, and yet he still does it? Why doesn't he get an axe/bat/crowbar/hammer/slingshot? I don't get it. Otherwise, this series is notable for apparently copious amounts of research on military equipment, tactics, and jargon, all of which add a substantial element of realism.

Binchy's latest book incorporates a lot of characters from previous books. It takes place at the Quentin's restaurant (mainly) on Tara Road. I have read all the previous books and loved "seeing" old characters again. It tells the story of a new character, Ella, and being scorned by a lover and how that affects her family and ultimately her little community as she sets out on a venture to produce a film (with two other friends) about the successful restaurant, Quentins, as a diversion to her sadness. Binchy always shakes things up in how a story is told. I would probably give it 3 1/2 stars because the little vignettes throughout made it feel a little choppy and not move as quickly for me. But as always, she entertains and tells a great, in-depth story with characters you can really relate to.

This is a wonderful book, with Newby at the peak of his powers. Anyone who is intrigued by the setting - Italy in wartime, as Mussolini fell and the Germans invaded - might be interested in a book I introduced, by Maria Corelli, called In Love and War. Maria gave me the manuscript - the type-written pages of a true story, which she wrote on the British Embassy typewriter in 1944. It doesn't appear on the book search, so maybe Alibris...?
