"Maybe when people longed for a thing that bad the longing made them trust in anything that might give it to them." "It was funny, too, how lonesome a person could be in a crowded house." "That didn't mean that 20% of the people were free to rob the other 80% of the means to live. This didn't mean for one rich man to sweat the piss out of 10,000 poor men so that he can get richer. This didn't mean the tyrants were free to get this country in such a fix that millions of people are ready to do anything - cheat, lie, or whack off their right arm - just to work for three squares and a flop. They have made the word freedom of blasphemy. You hear me? They have made the word freedom stink like a skunk to all who know." "The five patients had not been lost because of any negligence on his part. The blame was in the long years of want which lay behind. The diets of cornbread and sowbelly and syrup, the crowding of four and five persons to a single room. The death of poverty."

This book is a sequel, in that, it isn't as good as the previous ones. The four best friends do go and do things that are usually termed "growing up," but not all lives are like that. It was sweet because it did hold true to their friendship. It's worth the read if you've read the other three so at least you have some resolve. I wished some parts weren't part of the book, but I'm not the author.

Reading this collection was like watching a high school talent recital showcase. Some pieces were like performance art, which is to say they were totally unaccessible to me. Some were like spoken word, a bit too political for my taste but still enjoyable. Some were like folksy singer/songwriters, right up my alley and totally fabulous. I kept a list of the comics I liked and I have every intention of finding more of their work. Which is the point of an anthology, right? Exposure to something new and all... On the whole, the selections were political, off-beat and a little depressing.

Big dick jokes
This was a pretty solid 4 star urban fantasy book and the first I've read by this author. I liked that it was a fast paced page turner and even though some parts of the plot seemed really contrived at times, all the twists and turns made things interesting. The author did a great job of introducing the world of the "skilled," people with various interesting abilities and how their culture and lifestyle differs from unskilled, or regular folk. The characters were fairly relatable, but I had some trouble trying to figure out why on earth they made some of the decisions they had. There were a lot of themes running together through the book. How responsible are we for decisions made with good intentions, but end badly? Is the excuse "I had no choice" good enough? What if someone else is pulling the strings? Can you be bound to another person and still maintain some sort of independence by exploiting loopholes? Without giving too much away, there was a lot going on in this book! As much as I enjoyed this book, I don't know that I'll pick up the second book in the series. One of the main characters in the second book is someone I found extremely annoying in Blood Bound and I can't imagine trying to wade through a book with her foul mouth filling up pages and pages of it. I will look at Rachel Vincent's other books though!

This hitstorical romance kept me turning the pages as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I adored Michael Rafferty and found him crush and swoon worthy. Sigh... Even though this is the 3rd of the Chambers Trilogy, I really didn't feel as if I had missed out on anything - it reads like a stand alone. I enjoyed this book and am going to put it back in my TBR pile. I am going to look for the others in the trilogy to read them from beginning to end.

Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us of the value of quiet and the pursuit of serenity in the midst of our hurry-sickness.
This is a great romance story! Being a Michigander I enjoyed the local references like GVSU and the Lions' lousy record. But most of all I enjoyed watching as two people overcome their internal conflicts and find their way to each other. Read it - you'll be glad you did.

This is probably one of the only books I have actually shed a tear for while reading. I get sad sometimes If Im reading something sad, but usually never cry but this book tore at my heart. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially dog lovers like myself.
