** spoiler alert ** I didn't think it was horrible made a little bit more suspense. I mean it kinda did make me nervous about how she was talking about God and Guardian Angels. I mean it's not bad talking about Him but it was kinda of wrong I guess to make Zachary, the fallen angel, fall in love with something unholy like Miranda, the vampire royalty. Though it made the ending a little bit more worth it; with her taking her life because she finally has a little bit of humanity left in her to kill herself in order to save herself. I also liked how the "Big Boss" gave her a second chance.

A fascinating book with compelling characters and events AND a great deal to think about when you are done. I also loved the information about animal behavior and the religious perspective.

Wow just wow. I loved this book. It was a million times better then the first one and so spectacular! Gosh I get giddy just thinking about re-reading this book. I couldn't stop reading it and stayed up all night to finish it. It definitely messed up my sleeping pattern for the week, but it was totally worth it. This book had everything from funny to sad, it kept me hooked. Not to mention the the cliff hanger at the end..... I can't wait for the next book!! :))

As someone who enjoys detective fiction I enjoyed this book. It's look at the origins of the detective in society and in fiction work well together, and the book itself seems to thread the story at it's core (the murder at road hill house) as a key inspiration behind many plot lines in well known novels since. With that in mind the book bought an added appreciation to other novels I had read (Lady Audley's Secret). I really enjoyed the balance of fact with the touches of what was known of the family's life and it reminded me of In Cold Blood in this respect. It is written from extensive research by Kate Summerscale and so may not be for those who are out for a more fictional who-dunnit. However based on the vast sensationalism the murder created I though Kate Summerscale did a grand job in showing the events without speculation.

An incredible read! Jonas, at twelve, has the weight of the world put on his shoulders in order to protect people from pain; to protect people from emotional, physical, and spiritual pain. In this perfect society, no person is to experience life as you and I know it. We might justify to others facts in life by saying, "That's life!" In The Giver, Jonas receives his calling, his life's career, from the elders. He is going to be The Receiver, the most honorable position of all! What he is really to experience is the memories of all time! He will carry the good, bad, and horrible on his shoulders. No one in the community will know of the joy that once existed, the pain and suffering in the past, and the hope of the future because it has been removed from life. All joys and sorrows have been erased because one person, the receiver, keeps these in his/her heart and mind for all persons past, present, and future. The people who exist in this perfect community really lead programmed lives and experience no emotion, joyful or pained. However, Jonas learns what love is. This changes the world as this society knows it. He returns to the society what has been lost. The reader contends with life decisions from how to deal with relationships, joy, pain, death and major issues like suicide and euthanasia. I realize this is a controversial read for some. I must ask, why? Teens must address issues like those in this book if they are to be discerning in adulthood. Human beings must understand the consequences of decisions about life. They must be able to evaluate issues that impact life. Great issues are addressed in this book. Thoughtful! Is Jonas a believeable character? Of course, we can't identify with this really happening or with living in a society like the one painted for us, however, the author illustrates beautifully, the power of struggles and the importance of living an informed life when it comes to issues such as these. I would promote this in several ways. I would have a book club read this, A Soldier's Heart, and Ender's Game and the reader should analyze the child character in each and compare the effects that decisions make on the mind in regards to the mental health issues or impact. I would also recommend that a teacher introduce these books for discussion whether it be a research project for a psychology class, an english class, or even for a history class. Many applications are possible. 5Q 4P M,J,S

Loved this book! It was hilarious, made me laugh out loud in parts. The characters are rich and fun, and I think the secondary characters actually outshine the main characters, and I love when this happens in some books. Tiny Cooper is brilliant, and I thank the authors for introducing me to him and the Wills.

It's rare when I sit down and read a book in one sitting, but with every Griffin and Sabine book, that's what happens. I love Bantock's writing style. Totally pulls me in and little trinkets like love note and photos, to look at thru out the book. Brillant.
