If you liked Hunger Games, you will like this book.... however **spoiler alert** I'm still trying to decide if I like the ending. I think I would have done things a little differently.
I enjoyed this more than the Kite Runner, and like the Kite Runner I got totally sucked in and read it in 3 sittings. All I could think about after reading it was the recent Afghan Shitte law that pretty much permitted husbands to rape their wives. Too many forces in Afghanstan, Iran, Somalia, among others go unheard. Anyone who wants to become a bit more educated on the daily life and struggles of Afghani woman should read this book.

In a word: disappointing. Not boring, but not compelling either. I don't really like the whole Mickey/Harry shared story approach. It's fun when they make appearances in each other's books, but when they both appear equally, I don't get enough of either. And the court case wasn't very interesting, really. As a whole, the book felt under developed. Please Mr. Connelly, if you continue to write about these two intriguing men (and I hope you do!), realize that it's not just the situations in which they find themselves that keep us readers invested - it's their own personal journeys too. So give us more of their personal story, please? We got little tastes, but to me, it wasn't nearly enough. Oh - and can Rachel have her own book soon? I never, ever, ever get enough of her, and to me, she's more fascinating than Mickey and Harry put together.

well, i only read Patricia Briggs' Alpha and Omega and i totally loved it. I'm totally infatuated with Charles and i just think him and Anna make a great couple. i can't wait to see what happens in there full length novel. this little novella was just enough tease to get me running to get the other books in the series. i really enjoyed the Mercedes Thompson novels and the way this new series is starting i'm thinking i might enjoy it more cause the relationship with the H/h is known early and they seem to accept and desire it more. although it will be interesting to see how Anna reacts to having sex with Charles for the first time being that she told him she didn't like sex much. he's so sure of himself he won't let that be her opinion for long. hehe for the rest of the novellas in this book i'll get to them later. I have Sunny's first book in her series and will read that first before coming back to this story. the others i may never get to depending on if i start to read there work.
I’m not a big history buff, but I do love historical fiction and historical fantasy when it doesn’t push too many facts on me. This one was wonderful! I loved Amelia as an unassuming young woman that was trying to do the right thing and remain true to herself at the same time. A dark storyline with moments of lightness had me from the start. Mitchell seamlessly flowed from current to the past without feeling like you were in a flashback. Knowing from the first chapter that something has happened to cause such drastic action against Amelia only made me want to get to the end. The journey there was enjoyable and it’s a book that could be read in one sitting. I’m hoping that the storyline will be continued in another book as I’d love to see where it could go from the ending. There is so much possibility with Amelia’s gift.

I described this book as being "so good it hurt my brain". MATING is the thoughtful depiction of "girl meets boy" in Botswana and then scrupulously analyzed over the course of 470+ pages. It's funny when you think about it; women analyze everything anyhow, but in this case the protagonist is an anthropologist, and does it more clearly, more thoughtfully. She's still overanalyzing, but academically, which makes it fun. There were millions of lines I wanted to underline as I read. Not to mention words I should probably look up. Ultimately, though, I was amazed at how Rush comfortably climbed into the skin of a woman in her 30s. He spends the novel creating such distinct characters, but drawing your picture of them through how they thought more than anything they did or looked like. There is so much to enjoy here, but reading it is a labor of love- this isn't a beach read but something that requires your focus. You'll feel accomplished when you put it down. A stellar novel.

Sibs are People, too One of Picoult's best. She set aside her tendency to hurry through a book, failing to complete characters as though she has a word quota and doesn't want to use too many in one place, and did a much more thorough job with this one. You hate and love almost everyone before it's over. The younger sister is portrayed as a bit too sophiscated and understanding for an adolescent that has been through what she has, and pity the poor child whose mother is as single-minded as this one, but, overall, a very good effort about a topic that won't go away soon.
