This one was fairly disappointing. I was surprised to find that this was way too detailed, which I'm finding is the case with most fantasy stories. All the fantasy stories want you to see the world just as the author sees it and not give any room for imagination. This book focused too much on preparation for actions than the action themselves. For instance, in the first ten pages, the main character kills a dragon. He spends more time attempting to find his sword (that he dropped) in the tall grass than actually fighting the dragon. In short, too much detail, not enough action.

Not my favorite Vonnegut. It holds to his unique and often anecdotal style, but lacks the meaning behind his other work. Still enjoyable & amusing - it's difficult to not be taken with any characters he invents.

So my mom called me and told me, "Lori, I just finished this book. It was really good, and you have to read it because I think it is based on Biddeford Pool." So I read it, loved it, and then immediately contacted my favorite foremost expert on all things BPL, who prompted responded via text, "it is about the pool, we know the guy who wrote it!" Moral: my mom is wicked smart.

Read this one for the feminist book club. It was interesting. Very refreshing to read a sci fi novel by a woman, I realized I hadn't done that much.
