*Spoiler Free* I knew I had to read this after 'Amy and Roger's Epic Detour' and I have to say I was not disappointed. At all. The actual premise of the book had me sucked in completely with all the essential ingredients for a great contemporary read. One summer, a lake house, family and romance. I mean what more could you ask for?! I absolutely loved Taylor, despite not knowing about what it would be like to have someone with cancer, it was easy to relate to her. She had also clearly distanced herself from her family over the years and I really loved seeing how this changed over the course of the summer. The family dynamic was great with Taylor's nerdy brother Warren, her ballet-obsessed sister and pun-loving father. It definitely provided some comical situations and certain parts of the book had me grinning all over! Whilst of course there were the more serious aspects of the book, such as her father's cancer, it was not simply about that. The novel also addressed Taylor's past and the summer was not just to do with her family but also her friends and the mistakes she had made from many summers ago. I liked how it was a summer for her to right some of her wrongs; the title clearly fits the book well. I also thought the flashbacks were really well integrated into the story and they always left you wanting more. The actual setting of the book was great and it made me feel as if I was experiencing the summer along with all of the characters in the Pocono Mountains. The romance between Taylor and Henry was also incredibly sweet and just makes you smile. Inevitably the book does have its sad parts and I must admit there was some throat lumping going on. Matson tackled the issue of cancer extremely well but what I especially loved was how she made me think of how it's so simple to take the people in our lives for granted. I know it's cheesy but it makes me wonder that if I knew I had a limited time with someone, what would I do? I think, at such a young age, I feel invincible almost - as if nothing can touch me - but when a situation comes along that you are completely powerless to stop, it is pretty damn scary. But please don't be put off my morbid thoughts. This book is perfect for summer and provides as much entertainment as it does depth. THE VERDICT 4.5 stars - This book has everything. READ IT.
