Long to the point of tedium. It does, however, paint a sympathetic portrait of a national icon long taken for granted. The ending felt contrived, as if JCO had to throw in a conspiracy to satisfy some odd morbid portion of the population.

The audio version was fun, with different voices for each of the characters. I liked the letter format and enjoyed the light story line (plus it was fun to get the Charles Lamb references).

This book had a great story but the medical jargon was too graphic for me and often went into too much technical detail for a non-clinician.
3.8 stars! I loved the world Funke created here. I loved how gothic it was (despite thats not usually what sparks my interest). It seemed very real and beautiful. The characters however, didn't like to show to much emotion. Well, until the end of the book. At the beginning i didn't feel towards any of the characters at all. It took nearly the whole book for me to understand them a bit more, which is a pity. Again, the start of the book is where most of the troubles lie. Its very... sudden. Very... *sound of blade dropping*. There isn't much of an introduction, and it makes the beginning a whole lot confusing. The characters are just thrown into the mirror world. And the time in which we SHOULD be getting to know the characters, was a page, instead, labelled as "12 years later". And then suddenly, the kids are adults. So about 5 pages of kids, then suddenly the book skips 12 years or so and we are thrown into the mirrorworld, and told that all hell is going to break loose. Still have your hat on? But the little twists on fairy tales were brilliant. I loved the witches house scene, and the "tailor". Along with all other creatures described in the book. That is really where the 3.9 stars come from. As well as beautiful writing. If you're after some creative, imaginary world, similar to Peter pans "neverland", Eragon's "Alagaesia" and of course, Meggie's "Inkworld", then this book is quite perfect. That is all. ;)

Meeting a hot British guy on an airplane is pretty much every American girl's dream, right? Well, that's what happens to Hadley in The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight ... but this is no straight-on chick lit book. Yes, Oliver is pretty dreamy and the two of them get quite close for people who have only known each other for 24 hours. But I found the more compelling story to be the one about Hadley and her dad, who's getting remarried after leaving her mom (and effectively, her) not long ago. Overall, it's a short-time-spanned, sweet story. Recommended for fans of Sarah Dessen and Before Sunrise.
