This was a great read. Can't wait to find out what trouble Maxine, Grant and the Boys get into next.

it's supposed to be his 3 books put into 1 big one. there's really nothing all that different from 1 book to the next, and each chapter really doesn't have much to do with the next. it's really just short stories and not edited very well either...

** spoiler alert ** This felt really long.... some sections of it flew and others dragged. I actually read book two first and didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this one. I think Danny was a more likeable character. I found the historical information very interesting and ended up googling several of the events to get more information. I'd never heard of the molasses explosion before, that sounds so disgusting. The riot at the end just made me sad. It was interesting to tie it back to current riots and the devastation they have caused. For some reason, this one seemed to focus on the rapes which made me feel ill and vulnerable. I am sure that was the point. Connor seemed like a wasted character to me. I'm not sure if he plays a role in the third book but I don't remember him from the second book. I loved that Luther ended up back with Lila and Desmond. That was a truly happy ending and he knew how lucky he was at that point. It seemed silly that as wiley as McKenna was, he didn't think that Luther would open up the chest to see what was in it. It seemed so obvious.

My Nicaraguan friend, Memo, lent me his copy and I'm reading The Hobbit more slowly this time around and paying more attention to the details.

some of this book is really cool- her experiences getting started in derby, the inside dirt on all the politics of the texas league, etc. some fun blurbs, 'what's your roller girl personality' kind of stuff. some of it might get boring for non-hardcore derby fans. some lengthy play-by-play bout descriptions. still not done with it though, she's starting to lose my interest toward the end. meh. i gave up. not finishing this one.
Fabulous book! Mr. Childress took a serious topic - civil rights - and made it absolutely rivetiing and threw in some great fun by his amazing character driven action packed novel. I've hardly ever read anyone that can draw a character as he can and I appreciate his ability to make civil rights in '60's in, of course, Alabama, so accessible in a novel form. Kudos to him! I plan to read more by this amazing author. (The movie is good too!)

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this one. It was a great romance w/o sexing. This is the first Dirk & Steele novel I've read but that didn't take away from anything. Love Soria shes a very likable character and her physical "flaw" makers her an even stronger heroine.
not as good as her first novel
Darkly funny, so challenging of our lifestyles and interactions between races. Beautifully written.
