This is an awesome tale of the growth of a young boy into a man, through hardship and pain, both physical and mental. Fitz, the main character, is the bastard son of a prominent prince. As such he is treated constantly with disdain and disrepect. Eventually, the King see fit to give Fitz a station in life; as an assassin. This plunges Fitz into the thick of court intrigue and takes him on various misadventures as he becomes the apprentice to the court assassin, Chade. This book never ceases to deliver. It tugs at your heart strings as Fitz struggles to prove himself to those around him. All he really wants is to be valued, and is constantly struck down by people beneath and above. I found it to be a real page turner. If you like fantasy fiction then this book is a great addition to anybodies library.

Hey, I didn't love Paradise Lost. Then again, I read it in Directed Studies, and very fast... it could use another go.

I read this book after a trip to Africa--it written by a foregin correspondent and just goes to show how many things go unnoticed in this world. He exposes you to a behind-the-scenes of what a reporter may be forced to reckon with.

This was our book club choice this month. It was interesting and I would recommend it. It is not a feel good book though. It is about the Holocaust. We also watched the movie. I would not recommend it. I though it was too slow.

One of my all-time favorite science fiction books (and novels in general.) Zelazny's language is beautiful and the story compelling.

This book is about former NBA superstar Patrick Ewing. Patrick Ewing played for the New York Knicks. People can say that he is the main reason why the Knicks were so dominate during the time Ewing was on the team. Patrick Ewing is a very good basketball player and he lead the New York Knicks to playoff games and along with his teammates at the time together they were able to do anything on the court that they wanted to achieve. The reason why i really like this book is because i was a fan of the New York Knicks back in the 90s and i really liked Patrick Ewing. So when i read i enjoyed to relive the things he accomplished on the Knicks

3.5 This was a very promising story. Could have gone more into depth with the plot and characters, but ended up being a lite read.
I bought all three in this series years ago while at Portland's Powell's Books. I think I expected it to be sort of Narnia for adults . . . Not so. It is rather intellectually heavy, delving into weighty philosophical and theological ideas. The descriptions of the planets and inhabitants are incredible. Lewis has the fabulous ability to paint a picture so exact that one can easily see these strange worlds in one's mind. However, between the beautifully captivating descriptions and theological discussions, there doesn't seem to be much room left for plot development. I think that if you separated out the passages that progressed the simplistic plots of the first two books, Lewis would not have had enough material for a short story, let alone the first two novels. I've read the first two books so far, and have yet started "That Hideous Strength." I will eventually read it though, because I have a compulsive need to finish reading whatever I start.
