Something I finished in the duration of about 20 poops, only instead it was at Barnes & Noble. So, everyone and their fucking mother has read this book. Yeah, it's all right, but you mention the words "Slaughterhouse" and "Five" together to someone who's read the book and their immediate reaction is, "Loved it." Well, I didn't love it! It was all right, but it's overrated. People make it out like you haven't lived until you've read Slaughterhouse Five. I don't even think it was as good as Cat's Cradle, but that's me. Get a life, man! Quit following the crowd of mindless Slaughterhouse Five Lovers!

Mostly, the charming style is what keeps you going. The book is decent, but not amazing, and I thought the story didn't quite deliver the adventure it promised.
Fascinating study of a difficult time.

So far the series isn't too bad. After the short story I was really worried and while some of the things in the book speak out against organized religion and cast a bad light on religious beings there were still some nice messages in there specifically about Taylor's client. On to the next book which will determine if I read the 3-in-1 book I picked up from the library (not realizing it wasn't the first three books in the series).

*SPOILERS* FINALLY finished it! Not as addicting as the first three books, and it felt like King was just adding characters in order to keep the story going. Like "Patrick Danville." This character was given such a BIG role in the last third of the book, but we don't even hear a whisper of him throughout the last 6 books?? Anyway.. Many people hated the ending, and although it was the last thing I expected/wanted for Roland, I understand it. And I'm fine with it. Because in reality, it WAS all about the journey. Yes, Roland is the guy we're rooting for, but after all he's done, maybe he's not ready for what the Dark Tower truly offers at the top door (salvation). But now he DOES have the horn. Maybe he'll be ready this time around. This has been a wonderful journey, and I can't wait to see it in the big screen. Thank you Mr. King for giving me such a great story. For letting me see coincidences much more frequently, for making me doubt the solidity of this universe. And hope that dreams really are peeks into other worlds. I say thankya, do yee ken? Long days and pleasant nights. And may we all have twice the number.

This book is an incredible resource and one I hope to get my hands on for my own bookshelf. Booth walks you through all the differences between adult and teen reader's advisory. She gives recommended questions to ask and methods of approach. I like that she doesn't get too into specific titles, because that technique dates these kinds of books so quickly. She instead sticks to broad examples and themes, even remembering to include how a teen specialist can help other librarians in the library work with teens. This is great, comprehensive resource.

AMAZING!
Lovely story about three generations of the strong "Quinn" women. From dust jacket: "This is the legend attached to the Wishing Jar, handed down through five generations of the Quinn family. Great-Grandma Gracie purchased the painted ginger jar almost a hundred years ago, and now the beautiful little jar with the red-and-gold bird emblazoned on its side is as familiar as the family motto--"Purity of Heart, Faithfulness of Soul"--and the legacy of the 'strong Quinn women'. But these days Abby, Edith, and Neal Grace--the last three generations of Quinn women--feel anything but strong, faithful, or pure. In recent years their happy family life has turned to ashes. Abby's beloved husband John Mac has been killed by a drunk driver. Her mother Edith has suffered a debilitating stroke. And her daughter Neal Grace, at age seventeen, is struggling to cope with her grief over the loss of her father and the changes in her grandmother. The Quinn women have long since stopped believing in wishes-come-true. They know all too well that the Wishing Jar cannot give them what they want. The painted phoenix appears to ruffle its feathers from time to time, but never quite seems to fly. But then, without warning, things begin to change. Abby meets a perfectly nice, perfectly dependable man who wants to take care of her and shoulder the burdens she has had to bear alone. Neal Grace finds romance and adventure with a brooding, sensitive, auto mechanic. And Edith stumbles into a miracle--a leap into the past that just might reunite her with her long-dead husband Sam. Their wishes are finally coming true. The problem is, attaining the fulfillment of your heart's desire can sometimes be a curse instead of a blessing. What follows is a journey of discovery that changes the lives of Edith and Abby and Neal Grace. But will these three women ever understand the true meaning and power of their family legacy and, like the phoenix, rise again from the ashes?"
