A very sweet companion piece to Dylan's "Chronicles:Volume One" and "Positively 4th Street" by David Hajdu...

Made the mistake of seeing the film first before reading Garland's book... You can see how Hollywood twisted parts of the novel. However, Garland has created a believable and engaging read with some interesting social commentary on our times and the people who live in them.

I didn't particularly like Everything is Iluminated. I thought that it was pretentious and over written but this book could not be more different. It is very simple and - despite the fact that it is told from the point of view of a boy who lost his father in the World Trade Centre - very funny. It's kooky and heart warming without being at all schmaltzy.
I cant stand poetry and found this book amusing

Wow, Angels and Demons was every bit as good as The DaVinci Code, if not better! Really love the fact that the author has personal knowledge of the subject matter and setting of his books. Creates some reality to his fiction, and shows exceptional credibility. As always, this one ripped along at a fantastic pace, and kept the reader wanting more. I spent several late nights staying awake long after bed-time just to find out what's next. I adore that in any book! Dan Brown has a new one on the shelves this week, and I am certainly getting it as soon as possible. Can't get enough of his writing..

The two stories in this book reminded me too much of Emily Giffin's "Something Borrowed" which I was not overly excited about. The four characters (brother, sister, sister's best friend, best friend's crush) really annoyed me. For individuals who were supposed to be intelligent, responsible, educated, etc., as well as not being adults(ages ranged between 29 and 31/32), they really acted childish and immature. I really wanted to like the book more, but the characters' personalities kind of ruined it for me.

The Seven Whistlers is the newest in the growing line of collaborations between Benson and Golden, but is not a part of their Ghosts of Albion series. The stand-alone novella follows Rose in the days following her grandfather's death as the small town she lives in is plagued by fearsome black dogs and grave bad luck. Benson and Golden weave an intriguing tale for such a short space, and some of Golden's trademark horror is present as Rose slowly learns disturbing truths about loved ones. The horror lies less in the supernatural elements than it does in the destructive changes it brings to Rose's relationships. The authors also do a great job at bringing to life the small Vermont town where the story takes place. The descriptions of the setting, as well as the various characters that inhibit it, are vivid and efficient, and they really give the novella a great deal of flavor. Definitely worth a reread.

This was an amazingly good book. It combined a number of genres that I like; steam punk, who-dunnit and Egyptology. I also liked how the end didn't seem to cut too short like so many books I've read.
