The author freely admits that as a college professor he spends most of his time talking about books he hasn't read. According to his thesis, everyone who discusses books talks about books they haven't read, and that's OK. The acting of reading one book means that there are other books you are not reading. And anyway, you could never read even a tiny fraction of what is available (a depressing thought to me). Bayard argues that the important is to know about books and to know about books' place in the grand pantheon of literature.

Didn't live up to the hype for me. Didn't like any of the characters except the daughter. Too sad for me.

My rating is complicated: I didn't really get into this book until about 120 pages from the end, and then I devoured it. A very rare case indeed, where the ending far outweighs the book itself in intrigue and "believability".

I'm really liking it. I love that the woman is from Tanzania so there's references and Swahili used. So cute. Also interesting to hear about the harsh under-the-table-practices that are still sometimes used and the based on true stories that people dreadfully experienced living through the hell of Rwanda back in the 90s with the genocide. Ok it's true, it's a little too light-hearted and definitely written by a white lady. I think i was just mesmorized and missing tanzania so I liked the references to the country. Still liked it, but could have developed the stories with the people more. oh well.

Kind of a stupid book about a journalist trying to find the truth behind ghosts. The book succeeds however in creeping you out with stories of ghosts doing their thing. The author is too "look-at-these-crazy-ghost-hunters" and often goes into personal musings about the afterlife and his own spirituality. Screw that. I want to read about ghosts haunting the crap out of some poor old people in Ireland. The informative part is when you get to learn about different types of ghosts and all the many kinds of hauntings.

Depragmatized Dutch Book arguments are silly, but epistemic rationality is a good thing. I'm sort of into this guy. And this is finally coming out in paperback.
I love this book - it is definitely an English class text because it can be read on so many "levels." It's fluff - a boy meets girl story with plenty of witty back and forth conversation a'Beatrice and Benedick from Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. But it also tackles the trials and tribulations of family, the relevance of money to love, and the hardship of being a woman with a brain in Victorian England. Plus, Austen writes likes she enjoys writing, with clear and expressive prose. It's just good stuff all around. I first read it in high school, but pick it up for fun to re-read every other year or so.

Fletcher the fox is happily enjoying Springtime weather, until he sees snow! He runs to warn the other animals of the forest that winter is still around, and they should not come out yet (birds should fly back south, etc.) But they notice something odd about this snow of Fletchers, and maybe Spring is here afterall....

What gives. I know lots of people who should enjoy this book, but never believe me when I suggest it to them.

3.5 Actually, I only read the first book of the three. It was fascinating to learn of Lehi's Jerusalem. While reading this I had several light bulbs go off in my head - "OHHH THAT'S why he said that" Interesting stuff. If you are looking for something to make scripture study a little more interesting - this is a good one.
