The key to enjoy a Chris Brookmyre's book is: don't sweat it for the first 2-3 chapters because a) You will get there eventually, and b) You just want to get back to the first page just as soon as you finish the last. At least I do. Pandaemonium is a messy mixture of science fiction and teenage horror flick, with quantum physics, religious arguments and blood splatter all over the pages. I think it's a cross between A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil and Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks with Brookmyre's classic bloodbath (some people say it's a cross between Hard Black Pencil and Be My Enemy, which I haven't read). Anyway... Love it. One of Brookmyre's best traits, and why I love Hard Black Pencil so much for instance, is that he can dig deep into his characters and voice them out loud. I envy the way he switches point of view completely. It's more mature than the way he made Jack Parlabane, Sarah Slaughter and Jenny Dalziel sound alike in Quite Ugly One Morning. And the way he talks about parallel universe and the likes, with matter-of-factly religious (or rather nonreligious) implication, he sooo kicks Dan Brown a**! Oh... the pain in my stomach when I remember reading The Lost Symbol. Awkay, the science vs religion thing. The church (Catholic in particular) has long history of this battle, which I think explain why both parties seem so stubborn. I cannot follow because it's not exactly my corner to defend. I don't agree with Brookmyre, but I enjoy this book as much as I hate The Lost Symbol which unashamedly agnostic or even theistic. You can't put Pascal's Wager in a better context, and that atheists in the foxhole argument is (almost) spot on. This book also avoid the mistake in Unsinkable Rubber Ducks that lumps together theism and religion with paranormal craps. The fact that I believe in God and afterlife doesn't mean that I believe in fortune teller and ouija board (should be quite the contrary, in fact). The teenagers-went-loose-hollywood-style part is a little bit over the top and the gay bit is seriously uncalled for. But seven books so far and still satisfied. Six more to go.

I am reading this right now and I absolutely love it. When I read a new york magazine story that chose Nice Big American Baby by Judy Budnitz as a book that will be canonized. Sadly, the book bored me as formulaic new yorker style... Whereas, I have loved this book so far. It is weird and wild, and the description and world usage is delightful. The only criticism I would have is that the endings sometimes fall a bit flat, but only because the stories deserve more...perhaps each could have been a novel. Great though!

What goes around comes around!!!This is a very good book, If you have read the first two book, you've GOT TO read this one. Curtis seems to have changed his ways and it is an everyday struggle, but he still has to pay for his sins of the past he had 2 good wives and mistreat both and let us not forget all those church members he deceived, so what makes him think that he could just move away, married charlotte and live happily ever after. Not saying that Charlotte is right, because I'm sure she will be paying for her sins in the next novel.

really enjoyed this book. I really liked that there were 4 different stories. The only downfall is that I wanted to read more! I gave a rating of 3/5 to Witch Way by MaryJanice Davidson. I always love her writing! I gave a 4/5 to Street Corners and Halos by Catherine Spangler. She is a new author to me and I will definitely be looking her up to see what else she has written. I gave a 2/5 to The Demon's Angel by Emma Holly. To me, this was more sci-fi than paranormal. There was a whole new world with new words and I just didn't enjoy it. I gave a 4/5 to Angel and the Hellraiser by Vickie Taylor. This story actually made me cry and she is another author that I will be looking up!

I received this from Around The World ARC Tours. Here is my honest review. Hartley is sarcastic and entertaining, but if she bit her lip one more time I might have had to smack her. That really bothers me. Don't you realize when you're writing that you're completely overusing a phrase? Ugh. Anyway.. moving on. Besides that, I did think this book was funny and amusing. It's slightly predictable, as I did figure out the killer before the person was announced in the book. And other things are a bit transparent as well. But that's okay. It's a very quick read, and I had fun while reading it. I actually now want to read her adult stuff to see how they compare. I love adult fiction as well.. I just find YA to be faster and lighter. I think it's kind of neat that this is a YA murder mystery, be it far-fetched. And Hartley and gang are no investigators, but they pull it off of course. I'd give this 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding down on Goodreads because of the lip-biting. Honestly.
