On second reading, I think I enjoyed it even more. Bendis sure does write some snappy, funny dialog. Of course, nothing is resolved in this book, but it's a good, solid adventure, and a nice setup for future storylines. I really appreciate that Bendis can fully utilize the wide Marvel universe, but without losing readers who aren't steeped in the whole mythology. At least, my wife (who doesn't read mainstream nor superhero comics much) enjoyed it, and wasn't lost.

To say that I love the Kitty books would probably be an understatement. First, you have a kick ass heroine, find out she's an English major, she has her own radio show, and she's a werewolf. How could you go wrong with that? Even though I toyed with the idea of Kitty and Cormac getting together, I knew it could never work. While he had a great understanding of her, there lives were too different. Further, she could never fit into his lifestyle of being a supernatural bounty hunter. When Ben was turned into a werewolf and Kitty's Wolf viewed him as her mate, I wasn't sure how to take it. However, after reading Kitty Takes a Holiday and Kitty and the Silver Bullet, Vaughn really won be over to the whole idea. While working as her lawyer, you could see a spark between the two that was just amplified once their Wolves made a decision. In the previous book, I felt Ben really stepped up to the plate and proved himself to be capable of being an alpha. However, it did feel strange him becoming one of the alphas for the Denver pack with so little werewolf experience under his belt. So, I was pretty excited when the couple decided to take the next step. After the Wolves decided they were mated and the two became the head of the Denver pack, the logical next step was to get hitched. And what better place than Las Vegas! Admittedly, this book was all over the place! But I felt that was Vaughn's intention with this book. Even though things seemed to settle down a little after the vampire/werewolf battle, it couldn't stay that way for long . . . Not with Kitty involved. And, of course, things are bound to get crazy when Ozzie wants Kitty to put on a live show in Vegas! My problem with the book is that so many things were happening at one time that it was hard to focus. However, I really do think that was a plot device. That being said, I wish there would have been more time spent with the weird troupe of lycanthropes. I imagine, however, that we might get a bit more in the next book, but I'm not sure. Honestly, a lot of the stuff Vaughn introduced in this book could easily be subject matter for later books. The whole weirdness with Dom and the vampires could be explored, Grant and his guardianship, etc. Even though this book was a little crazy, I really enjoyed it. Honestly, when I got married, I would have rather just gone to Vegas and screw everyone *sheepish grin* So it was nice to see Kitty do that ^_~ Vaughn was able to have a really action packed book while still maintaining a level of humor that I expect from the Kitty books. My favorite conversation in the whole book: "A werewolf isn't supposed to have parents," Brenda said, grumbling. "They're not supposed to have mothers. How am I supposed to shoot you now, knowing it'll upset that really nice woman?" "You're not supposed to shoot me at all!" I glared "Sorry. Figure of speech." (179) All around, just a fun book! It was a quick read and never bored me.

A well written follow up to Eragon. Like the first it was somewhat predicable but enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the release of the final book in the Trilogy.

** spoiler alert ** I grew to love these characters - too much given the ending.

I think this book is hysterical. Ignatius C. Reilly is an over the top absurd character and I appreciate this story of his attempts at getting a job in New Orleans. I need to re-read this book as some Post-Katrina lit since I think that a lot of places featured in the story are now gone.. :( My favoite line in the story, when Ignatius says, "my being has many facets". I like to describe myself that way!

Sweetie is not a book you can judge by its cover because 'Sweetie' is the name of a young girl in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. The story feels like it is set in the last 60's or early 70's, and it is a coming-of-age tale between Melissa and her only friend Sweetie. As a guy, I didn't mind the female perspective of the story, even though it dealt with some issues I never experienced and can never truly understand. I really liked the bond developed between the two girls and how each of them wore off on the other. I also liked the themes dealt with in the book including friendship, death, and bullying.

Quick, funny read. The author is extremely literate and intelligent, which makes this book not for everyone. Since she is an English professor her literary allusions would be lost on many. Some of the religious parts made me uncomfortable, which was probably the author's purpose. I laughed out loud...a lot, especially when Janzen was describing her mother. I also know MUCH MORE about mennonite culture, but that's not saying much since before I read this I knew nothing. In the end, the message of family being there as a healing force in the worst of times is heard loud and clear.

Girls that Growl by Mari Mancusi is the third book in the Blood Coven Vampire series. This book again follows Rayne the Vampire Slayer as she is forced to infiltrate the cheerleading squad to find out why their football player boyfriends have gone missing. Rayne makes the cheerleading squad and find that the cheerleaders have been turned into werewolves. Through all of this Rayne's relationship with Jareth is on rocky ground and her life is slowly spinning out of control. Mancusi again does a fantastic job of combining a hysterical over the top plot with very complex characters and serious issues. Rayne spends most of the book struggling with her self identity and sabotaging her relationships with the people she loves as she searches for a way to deal with werewolf cheerleaders. Appropriateness: This book has the same level of adult behavior as the last in the series. Rayne's bad girl antics are shown to be a cover for her insecurity in her life. There's some drinking, some sex talk (but no actual sex) and Rayne lies to her mother (and leaves the country without permission). One of the side characters is a cutter and it is handled in an extremely delicate way. While some think that cutting is something that should never be talked about or mentioned at all, I appreciated Mancusi's handling of the topic. http://booksyourkidswilllove.blogspot...

I think that this is an awesome book with a great storyline. Explains a lot about the quiet hero master chief when he was in training.

I continue to enjoy reading these books - probably not so much for the mystery and the plot as the relationship between the two characters and the background of late 19th century New York. It would be hard for someone to figure out who was the murderer in the beginning since the murder does not occur until the book is almost 2/3 through.
