A tad dry down the middle, it still manages to present a fresh case of how the world works, if slightly far fetched at times.

This has quickly become my second-favorite book by Jodi Picoult. I'm hearing a lot of mixed reviews about it, but I think it was one of her strongest books of late. Maybe because it relates to me (sort-of), while not really something I've BEEN through, I see both sides. I don't agree with the evangelicals and cringed while reading that side, however I've lived through that in a way - the one-sidedness of some religions, how words can be twisted to suit someone's agenda. I hated the pastor, I detested Max (I think I liked him more as a drunk, to be honest...at least then he was human rather than a brain-washed robot), Reid was a pompous jerk at times. I saw one of the bigger twists near the end coming, though... I really, really, really loved this book.
an instant must-have when I found it as part of one those scholastic book fairs they used to have when in was in elementary school, I cherished this book greatly as a kiddo. not at all the hearts n flowers sort of unicorns, this one is a very well written coming of age tale where the prince searching for his lost birthright does battle with dragons with a sword already attached to his head rather than in his hand. a complete and wholly satisfying tale, except that a narrator's coda tells us "but that is only the first part of my song. come to my campfire tomorrow night and I shall tell you the rest.". the hunt to find the sequels launched a lifelong love of book collecting.

This one takes warming up to. There's a lot of internal language and theory that isn't clear at first, but the author is good at adding a little each chapter. Great story in an interesting setting. Satisfying throughout.

I read this because I absolutely love this author's articles in The Atlantic Monthly and other magazines. Even if he writes about subjects I don't have interest in, he can make me be interested in them on the strength of his writing. That said, I was a tad disappointed with this book overall. It didn't seem quite up to snuff with his other works. I'd still recommend it to anyone interested in the area or anyone interested in the author.

How did my daughter get to be a "Toddler" already???? I still think she is a baby! I will review the book when I am done, but I love all the Girlfriends Guides books, they are so funny and easy to read.

This parallel novel follows the character Bean before and during the events of Ender's Game. If you're a fan of that book, it's really cool to see the same story from a different perspective. I've never been as interested in the Shadow series as the Ender series, but it's more great Card writing, and the parallel is awesome.
