The most complicated, amazing, ridiculous, impressive, infuriating, brilliant, fantastic, arrogant, intelligent novel ever written. If you can find your way into a class that is just about this book, get into it. I first attempted to read this in high school, because why not? I was reasonably intelligent, loved to read, and was going through a period of getting in touch with my Irish roots. I read the first 10 pages and looked up about 30 words. I was in over my head. I switched over to Dubliners. Three years later, midway through college, I came across a seminar that concentrated solely on Ulysses. A math professor offered the course every two years simply because he loved Joyce and Irish literature. There were a dozen people in the class, so we all got to know each other well. We read the book through during the first half of the course, with teacher-led discussions twice a week. That was interesting. Then the teacher let each of us pick a chapter to read again, study, learn, and teach. The second half of the course consisted of students teaching students (and the teacher). We spanned majors--lit, history, physics, dance, theater, communications--so everything came from a different and new perspective and point of view. We noticed things we hadn't noticed the first time around. This was the part of the course the teacher loved, because even he learned new stuff. His enthusiasm was infectious: we had all been interested in Joyce and the book coming in, but we all loved Joyce and the book during and after the class. More important, because it was a small enough group and the teacher was amazing, we all felt like we had shared an experience unlike any other.

This wasn't my favorite book in the series. It most likely has to do with the fact Tally wasn't the main character. I did, however, liked how it was a different city this time instead of Tally's. Overall it was a good read.

I read the Blind Side and enjoyed it a lot, but I really liked hearing about Michael Oher's story from his perspective. He definitely has a good sense of self, and he knew what he needed to do to get out of the hole he was in. He reminds me a little of Liz Murry in Homeless to Harvard. It's a book worth reading.
