Well the moment I saw that this book was getting released I could not wait to read it. I loved reading Chelsea Handler's numerous memoirs and one of my favorite parts of those books is reading all the lies she told people. So I saw what the topic of this book was and to say the least I was very giddy! And it did not disappoint! I laughed out loud at many times and just could not believe 1. How well she lies, 2. How many people fall for it, and 3. How consistent people were about Chelsea Handler and her personality and idiosyncrasies (I think everyone mentioned how she pees her pants a little when she laughs.......hilarious and gross!). I also loved that Chelsea actually made comments about her friends after wards.....short and sweet. The best chapter is the one in which she shares letters from E! Entertainment of what they need to bleep out in the taped episodes of Chelsea Lately. Anyone who is a Chelsea Handler fan needs to read this book!

Vonnegut wrote that this was one of his least successful novels. Even so, it became the basis for a movie starring Jerry Lewis and Madeline Kahn, with Jim Backus (a.k.a. Thurston Howell III) as the president.

Very depressing - such horrible things happen to innocent children. But it's good to see him come through it.
I've met the editors, Dr. Touradj and Dr. Fernando ^_^

This is the kind of book that shouldn't work. It's metaphors are so obvious and you know exactly how it will end. Yet, it does work because Hornby, just as he was in High Fidelity, is a great author with just the right note of sarcasm and cyinicsm makes it work. Even if you see the movie, which is also good, it doesn't ruin how much fun reading the book is. This is guy lit at it's best. Another tale of arrested adolescence that is very readable.

This doesn't actually sound all that interesting and I doubt I'll get around to reading this in the distant future, but this guy is the best art history lecturer of all time and can make anything interesting, even teacups. It's true. Best professor I've ever had.

This is a lovely and profound book. Yes, in some parts it seemed a bit slow, and the slowness was reinforced for me by the fact that I'm a slow reader. When you read at the torrid pace of about 5 or 6 pages a day, it's sometimes hard to stay focused. Anyway, what I loved about this book is the way it captures the significance of ordinary things--the way sunlight shines in a room; the power of a glance or a kind gesture; the fairly mundane things that tie a community together; the ways in which the past, present, and future are constantly intersecting. I also liked how Robinson explored some of the intricacies of human relationships that are manifested in simple ways. Finally, I appreciated the basic humanity of the narrator, a flawed man who is honest about his faults but whose dignity and goodness shine through.
This was a follow-up to A Princess of Roumania. I liked it about as well as that book. They're not my favorite fantasy, and they move a little bit slowly for me, but they are definitely worth reading.
