A jaw waits for a fist A bunch of whores won't get fucked. They're wearing ash in San Pedro. Bukowski's dead. Too much wine in screw-top bottles. Too much Spam gobbled cold over the sink. That ugly motherfucker wasn't gonna live forever. A typer's waiting by a window waiting by a window. Bukowski's dead. Oh baby please don't go to the bar tonight with your highbeams on. Bukowski's dead.

The operative (and obligatory) phrase to describe these poems, would be "disturbingly funny". "Behold the meaty bed of royalty! Behold the final Biggie!"

i wanted to like jimmy corrigan very much because author chris ware has done something which i greatly admire -- which is to produce something quite innovative, it's a creatively unique approach to the graphic novel medium. and on that level it's very successful! he has a distinctive style and the layout of pages is interesting without being confusing. it really looks like a graphic designer or architect's take on the graphic novel deal. unfortunately i just found chris ware's semi-autobiographical story and characters hard to connect with. i can see, though, that it would be widely appreciated by people who have personally dealt with the main themes of insecurity, fear of being disliked & especially everything associated with meeting your father for the first time as a grown adult yourself. at times it reminded me of one of my all-time favourite books, 'blankets' by craig thompson. but blankets dealt with stuff that i easily identify with in my own life. Jimmy Corrigan is a reasonably lengthy and persistently depressing story. nevertheless Ware should be congratulated for producing this literary work.

Excellent charcter developement. You can feel them working their heines off just to survive. Even the ENVIRONMENT is a character in this wonderful 1st novel. Fans of Anita Shreve, Anita Diamant or Sally Gunning may enjoy this.

This was a fun cookbook to read. I learned a lot. However, I haven't enjoyed a lot of the recipes inside. I have just used her overall ideas and come up with some DELICIOUS recipes. It has been a good reference, but I have learned that I don't necessarily like all of the ingredients that she uses, or recipes can be made easier.

Book That Changed My Life 3: A straightforward non-fiction look at where our food comes from, but one that motivated me to think more while eating better. To steal a quote from a different book about food -- Heat, by Bill Buford -- cooking should be an intimate act. In what other activity do you put something of yourself into another person?

I read this book in two parts. The first half is more the practical, everyday things to organize your house and time. I thought this part was informative, but I would just recommend other home organization books before this one. The second part is more about how your feelings and state of mind really affect your job as a homemaker. It also goes into the spiritual aspects of raising well-behaved children in a gospel centered home. I liked the book more for the second part than the first. The author and her daughters each brought their different personalities and life experiences to make the book reach out to all different kinds of people/situations.
