Grades 5+. Originally abandoned by her actor parents who later attempt to gain custody, Cat wages a spirited campaign to decide her own fate and remain with her grandmother.
I think this is a book more for adults (though writen in in the form of a children's story). It is covers the same themes and concerns as Atwoods's Handmaid's Tale but doesn't give the same satisifying glimpse backwards upon the enclosed community that the main character strives to escape.

There's something there on the edge of her memory like a word on the tip of her tongue, but Kandi can’t remember what it is to save her life. Kandi is also starting to have weird nightmares that seem to feel so very real to her. Jimmy is a cop and even he can’t protect Kandi from the one thing that haunts her. Kandi is in danger and she doesn’t even realise it yet.. After the tragic car accident happened, her brain repressed her memories of it, and now, she’s has just switched classes at school and is now taking a Biology class under a man who wants to see her dead. Kandi's memories have started coming back in the form of nightmares and occasionally during the day in a weird de ja vu way. Kandi feels like she is miles away from Jimmy, she feels safe when she is with Jimmy. But can Jimmy protect her from her biology teacher when Kandi doesn’t even know she needs protecting from him? Will the biology teacher harm Kandi? Why does the biology teacher hate her so much? Why can't she remember what has happened? This is quite a short story but very enjoyable. I enjoyed seeing the tragic accident from both points of view, from Kandi's when she finally remembers it and of course the devastation that her biology teacher Mr Chandler went through and is still going through now because of it. This story has actually made me want to read more by the author as I liked her style of writing. The story was at a steady pace throughout so it held your attention all the time.

Absolutely hilarious, and tons of fun. Just the table of contents alone had me laughing. The story was plotted cleverly, and I enjoyed the characters. It was a nice review of Greek mythology, although I felt I missed quite a few references I would have appreciated had I remembered mythology better.

This is part of a series of well crafted letters between a man and a woman.

Would not recommend. I found this book to be sorely lacking. Could not empathize with the characters, and although the book was heavily depressing in it's content it did not offer an uplifting or conclusive ending. Depressing and disconnected.

While escaping from the strange men that are after him in London, Jimmy discovers he possesses many unusual talents for an eleven-year-old boy. Jimmy is only 38% human, the rest of him is an assassin machine. Can he control the robotic part of his personality? And can he find anyone who will tell him the truth?

Great introduction to Frida Kahlo for children. Very well done.
