I loved the first half - it's a bit Marquez-like (Desdemona reminds me so much of Ursula in One Hundred Years of Solitude), up-tempo, and riveting. As the story progressed to Cali's school and her love affair with the Object, I began to get weary of the story for some reason. It's a really good book though; I just found the last parts not as fascinating as the first half.

Eva Ibbotson has to be one of my favourite authors. This book could be described as cinderella-esque. A great read.

This was a good book, but not my favorite Tom Robbins novel. I think I need to re-read it, as I can only remember the bizarre details versus the overall message.

This was the first Nichols Sparks book I read and I think it was a creat read.

This book would have been better if the climax had actually occurred at the middle of the book, instead of so nearly at the very ending. Getting into the lives of the characters was important, but it dragged on so heavily that the book wasn't spent with the reader going "what happened next?" but rather, "when will something happen?"
This was so much better than the movie.

Disturbingly sad. The story and the characters... there just wasn't "enough" to them. It needed more.

This novel messes with your head. Really. As far as Kobo goes, I prefered Woman in the Dunes for pure entertainment, but the Box Man goes into uncharted territory (whereas Woman in the Dunes grasps at fairly traditional existentialism, albeit from a unique perspective) Who is the Box Man? Is he one? Two? Three? Everyone? You could read this book a thousand times and still not unravel the mystery. I, of course, have my own opinion, but the beauty of this book is that you just can't stop trying to figure things out. I definitely recommend a read. I can't guarantee you'll enjoy it, but I can guarantee that you'll be either completely befuddled or completely obsessed. And befuddled.
One of the Christian apologetic books I read at the beginning of last quarter when I developed a sudden interest in exploring different religions. I really wasn't impressed.
