This book, a gift from Sandy Bryant, was nice to curl up with, though it moved slowly. I couldn't wait to read about my new "extended family" - the adventures of Reuben Land and Swede, as well as admire the great and admirable faith of Jeremiah Land.

It was a good story and even though it was quite a departure from the type of book I usually read I am glad that I read it. I had a little trouble for a chapter or two, reading of the cruelty that White Fang endured at the hand of man. I know these things happen but just don't care to read about them. I was thankful for Jack London's ability to let the reader know what was going on with out including every minute detail. It was a good story and can understand why London's works are considered worthy of attaining the honor of classic.

I can't come up with enough superlatives to use about this book. Engrossing, riveting, terrifying, awe-inspiring. Just a wow all around. Such a tragedy that ultimately can't really be blamed on anyone. The book reads like a novel and is as much a page-turner as any fiction I can remember. I also highly recommend the audio version of the book.

Cute characters, fairly simplistic murder mystery, but a fun read.

A translation just as readable as Musa's previous translation of the first canticle of the Divine Comedy, although one which also falls pray at times to similar errors of historical facts in the notes. I like this canticle a lot less than I do Inferno. The higher Dante and Virgil climb, the more overwhelming the theological aspects of the work become, the more dogmatic it becomes, and the less awe-inspiring the set-pieces become. Perhaps this is just because I am approaching it from the viewpoint of an Atheist Who Still Has Lashings Of Catholic Guilt, but it makes it much less engaging for me. Though I suppose that begs the uncomfortable question of why I would find the section devoted to the eternal punishments of Hell more engaging than the promise of eternal salvation. Still with the Catholic guilt thing, I guess.

This was a great book. I love how we get the deeper look at Elphaba's life and what makes her tick, per say. Now, I really want to pop in my "Wizard of Oz" DVD to see "part 2".
