I read this anytime I am feeling down. I end up smiling while reading this book. I love it when The Little Prince says, "How Queer!"

Ended up a little differently that what I was expecting, but couldn't put it down towards the end, then it just ended! Library does not have second book. Guess I am going to Barnes and Noble this week!!
Will never forget the descriptions of the raging effects of the Marburg and Ebola virus. While NF, the book had an eerie SF kind of feel--probably boosted by a bit of exaggeration.

Women of the Denver area are being targeted by a killer the FBI are calling The Bride Collector. The killer leaves his victims naked except for panties and a veil. The body is glued to the wall and the blood is drained from the victims. FBI Special Agent Brad Raines is at a dead-end in his investigation. Nikki Holden, a forensic psychologist, working with Brad is of the opinion that the killer thinks of himself as the groom and that his preparations of the body are done out of love. When the killer leaves a note in the heel of his victim Brad and Nikki are at a loss to figure out the message that the killer is trying to convey. Determining that the killer is both mentally ill and a genius the FBI turns to the Center for Wellness and Intelligence. The center is a private home for gifted, mentally ill residents. When Brad and Nikki visit the center, they meet residents Roudy, Andrea, Enrique and Paradise. People have their own set of personal problems but each is highly intelligent. Although the mannerisms of the group could be considered at times comical their mental problems are very real. The group works hard to decipher the meaning behind the message left by The Bride Collector and manage to reach a solution that is a big help to the FBI. Brad suffers from a mental problem of his own in that he cannot forget his first love who killed herself because she didn’t think she was beautiful enough. The killer leaves a note that indicates he has taken a personal interest in Brad that makes Brad fear for anyone close to him. Paradise seems to have the ability to see the final moments before a person’s death by touching the body. Brad works to gain Paradise’s trust and soon he is fascinated by Paradise who refers to herself as a skank because she feels she is ugly. This is a fast-paced book and not your usual serial killer story. The Bride Collector ended too soon for me.

When I read Serena Yates' review about this book, I was surprised because she doesn't easily give a bad review. And if she does, she tries to back it. Her review got me so intruiged, I had to buy the book and read it. And my lovely Serena, you were so right. I never expect high prose with these kind of shifter books, but like to read them for the easy-at-heart and light content, but this was terrible. The writing itself was not the problem, but the selfish mean alpha Riven who treated his mate in a inferior way that cannot be accepted and tolerated. I actually liked Riven, till 15% before the end of the book. He used his position as alpha against his mate and that's an absolute no-go! I mean, I NEVER would accept this behaviour from my mate. I cannot say it better than Serena, so if you want to read her review, please click here.

One of those annoying, unfinishable books that are completely misrepresented by their premise. This is in no way a 'memoir of intimacy' - no great insights about the nature of maintaining sex in married life - instead it's a little like being forced to read a year's worth of the 'Muller family newsletter; you know, the kind that some families send out with a Christmas card every year that details Every. Little. Thing. that happenned during two-thousand and whatever. So, if the idea of a listening to a years' worth of ramblings from an upper middle class white Southern soccer mom whose most interesting vice is watching Bad Television (presumably Jerry Springer-type shows) floats your boat, this one's for you. But trust me: your life is far more interesting. And I don't even know you.
This is a beautiful novel about challenging oneself to do something which scares you and to step out of your comfort zone - about how powerful that can be. A pleasure to read and a book to share with your girlfriends.

it would be better to ride around in a cab and ask the driver questions, because you'd probably get less of a rant.

Kept me guessing about the murderer to close to the end, with at least two other perfectly-possible options lingering. The author's usual precise and detailed description of countryside, characters and relationships (oh, the agony!) continue to be a pleasure. I'm getting quite spoiled by such good writing!
